Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant. Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight. Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. Psalm 119:76-78 ESV
The psalmist faced the injustices and trouble of life with a focus on the precepts of the Lord and the promises of His unfailing love. While delighting in God’s law, he asked Him for justice so that the arrogant would suffer the consequences of their behavior. He looked to God alone for his deliverance and restoration.
Conflict and trouble will certainly arise, and you will likely be wronged at times. Your response could be to hit back or to sit and stew on the offense. You could be consumed by anger and even meet an arrogant person on his own terms by building up your own self-image. Yet the unfailing and unwavering comfort of God’s love is what will restore you through the highs and lows of life.
It’s tempting to delight in the downfall of others, but today’s psalm challenges you to delight in the Lord’s law and precepts. Make these your go-to when you’re discouraged or in the midst of conflict, and you’ll find solid ground to stand on.
