Where Was God? Part 3

We arrived at the hospital early that morning and went to the receptionist. She was very nice and after filling out some papers we met with the doctor. He was in his late 60s’ and on the move. He ask if we would walk with him as he talked. When we got to his office we sat down and he gave us some papers to take home and look at. He took my MRI and look at it. Then he said he would perform the procedure. I was given an appointment for the following week. I explained what the doctor from Philadelphia wanted to do and he told me he was interested in what she planned on doing. He wanted her to perform her procedure at his hospital so he could watch. I said I’d ask her. We then drove home feeling relieved.

When we got home I called the doctor at Temple and ask if she would be willing to do her procedure in Virginia and she said yes. She said she was so interested in the Gamma Knife that she would fly down to do her part and when it was time for the Gamma Knife she would fly back down again. For the privilege of seeing this procedure she would not charge me. How much was God in control of this!!

The following week we again drove to Virginia and the doctor from Temple was there with the other doctor. They waited as I changed and we went to an operating room. I got up onto a table and then the fun began. This procedure requires that they open a blood vessel in your leg, where they insert a wire from there up into your brain. I was told I’d feel a slight pinch. Boy were they lying. It hurt when they open the blood vessel. The room filled up with people as they began. There were huge monitors all around the room. Everyone was wearing the leaded suits because they were using fluoroscope. That’s were the X-Ray is on all the time. This is so that they can follow the wire as they pushed it up my leg and into my brain. I was told to let they know if Anything happened while they were doing this. At one point I had to stop them because it felt like they were trying to push the wire out of my eye. They backed it up and went through anther vessel.

Once they were in the brain she said they would inject a solution that would take the oxygen away from that area for a short period. This was to see if anything would happen if they blocked that vessel. I was informed that there are vessels, in the brain, that aren’t supposed to have blood in them. Mine were full of blood because of the Aneurysm. I ask what type of things I should be looking for. She said anything because they really weren’t sure what would happen if and when they block a vessel.

I should mention that they were going to be blocking as many vessels as they could around the Aneurysm because the more they blocked the more blood they’d take away from the Aneurysm. There were a total of seven vessels and they could only do three because of the problem encountered. They ranged from ears ringing, room spinning, all vision breaking up, body temperature rising, to everything turning upside down. When they found a vessel that they could block, a solution was injected like super glue with a pellet to block the vessel. The whole procedure lasted about 30 minutes.

Here are some things I didn’t know. After the procedure I was to be taken to the intensive recovery ward and had to stay there for 18 hours while the incision in my leg closed. A large clamp was placed over the incision to stop the bleeding. The pressure from the clamp hurt and they had to take it off. Someone then had to sit or stand over me and hold pressure on the incision to stop the bleeding. Someone was there for 4 hours holding pressure until the bleeding stopped. After being there for 24 hours. I was released and given an appointment for the following week to come back for the Gamma Knife surgery. I thought they were going to do it the same day. Bobbie told me that she knew this and we’d drive to my Mothers’ house and stay there the week and then return. I ask her how come I didn’t know or remember this. She just told me that I was under a lot of pressure and there would be things that I wouldn’t remember talking about.

Bobbie drove the four hours to my Mothers’ and we stayed the week. I wasn’t to do anything but rest and continue taking the Valium four times a day. I have to tell you that I don’t remember that week. I don’t remember anything about a second procedure when we went back. I thought it was all done the same day. The doctors have informed me that because of the stress I was under that this could happen. All I know is that I did a lot of praying. I must add here that every time they opened the vessel in my leg and went in, I had to sign a paper stating that if I died while they were moving the wire they wouldn’t be held responsible. I’ll also add here that I let them open me up four times and when they wanted to do a fifth time, I told them no more.
