Another poem from my unpublished novels. For the unmilitary, Awol is abscent without leave.
WHEN THE ROLL IS CALLED UP YONDER
HOW MANY OF YA’LL WILL BE AWOL?
There is a delusion,
Most people share.
“Hell is for others.
I cannot go there.
I’m not that bad.
I’m better than most.
With my good behavior.
Into heaven I will coast.”
But the evidence shows,
Instead it is true.
That the flames of hell
Are waiting just for you.
All miss God’s standard.
Of one hundred percent
There are none who follow
All the laws He has sent.
He knows you can’t do it,
But He loves the Human race.
So sent his Son
To die in in your place.
But you reject His offered Grace.
“I’m good enough you’ll see.
I do more good than bad
In Heaven I gotta be.”
But into flames, you fall away.
You’ve been found guilty.
On Judgment Day.
Woe, woe, woe, woe.
Down to Hell you must go.
In eternal solitary all alone below
Feel the flames. Feel the heat.
Your agony is never complete.
Feel the pain. Feel the grief.
Bite your tongue. Gnash your teeth.
You ignored God. Now He ignores you.
Your pleas for mercy, don’t get through.
“My mother down on bended knee
Used to pray each night for me.
You shouldn’t ignore her fervent prayer
You can’t ignore it, and send me there!”
God replied: “I didn’t ignore it,
She is here with Me.
Just as all saintly pray-ers
(Pardon the pun) should be.
It was you who ignored those prayers
She prayed to Me each night.
I am re warding her.
For every prayer she made.
Angels applaud the saintly lady
She sees new wonders each day
Sadness over, full of delight.
All tears are washed away.
You wanted to be your own god.
Only Hell let’s you do that.
Heaven has only one God (Me).
No other gods here can be sat.
You rejected My help to go to Heaven.
Insisted on your own inner divinity.
So work your own way out of Hell.
Shouldn’t take you more than two times eternity.
So goodbye forever.
I never knew you.
Just as you never knew Me.
This conversation is through.”
Feel the pain, in the darkness complete.
Writhe and howl, the worms think you taste sweet.
Cry and weep, but it is just too late.
Locked forever, behind Hell’s gate.
