What would you do?

If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two - if he came unexpectedly, I wonder what you'd do.

Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honoured Guest, And all the food you'd serve to Him would be the very best, And you would keep assuring Him you're glad to have Him there - That serving Him in your own house is a joy beyond compare.

But -when you saw him coming, would you meet Him at the door with arms outstretched in welcoming to your heavenly Visitor?

Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in? Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they had been?

Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard?
And wish you hadn't uttered that last, loud, hasty word?
Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?

And I wonder- if the Saviour spent a day or two with you, would you go right on doing the thing you always do?
Would you go right on saying the things you always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?

Would your family conversation keep up its usual pace? And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace?

Would you sing the songs you alway sing, and read the books you read,
and let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feeds..
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you're planning to go? Or would you, maybe change your plans for just a day or so?

Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends? Or would you hope they'd stay away until His visit ends?

Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on? Or would you sigh with great relief...
when He at last...
was gone?

I have seen something similar to this... And I have decided that in reality, he knows what books I read, what tv programs I watch, and who my best friend is... and since I am going to church tomorrow evening to see "Passion of the Christ" then sure he can come with me. After all it is his story.

He is going to be "knocking on our door" soon, so we might as well be ready for Him.. ready to fall down on our faces before Him and worship Him forever. I don't want my Lord to ever leave me, for if He did, then I would again be as "Lost as a goose in a desert and I would sizzle like bacon for eternity".

Yes LindenLady,

Jesus does already know all that we do, and any thinking that we can hide things from Him, or that we can pretend a righteousness before Him, is pure vanity.

He knows our every move and thought.... and I am so glad He does!

The moral of the story in the poem above is that we ought to consider just how we are living each day.

We also must keep in mind that we do not know what hour He will come and we do not know when we will die.... and we just need a reminder every now and again to cosider our ways. It is healthy to do some housework on ourselves and take a look at how we are living. How easy it is to slowly slip, bit by bit, into a reckless pattern of living, all the time saying our prayers, going to church, saying 'the right things at the right time' and yet be living our lives as if we never knew Him, nor tasted His love, mercy and grace.

Surely, He has done a wonderful thing in our lives and made us to be fashioned after Him, He has taken our sin upon Himself that we might, in believing, have eternal life... and no amount of keeping a tidy house or lifestyle can add to His sacrifice of Himself for us. But just because we have been blessed with His righteousness, does not mean we can then go on living as if doesn't matter how we live.

We live for Him, and by Him, that He, Jesus Christ the Lord, may be glorified in our lives... and He will require of us one day an account of what we have done with His mercy and grace.

We can fool ourselves into thinking we are doing alright.... as a little bit here and a little bit there of unrighteous acts or words seem to go unpunished, and because the flesh desires always to be satisfied, we must war against it in the power of His might, by His Spirit... and resist temptation to slacken off in our day to day living... and before long, develop habits that are unfit for the Kingdom of God.

This sort of behaviour is evident the world over, and is one of the causes for so much pain and misery in homes and households... and even in whole countries, as we allow more and more little bits of unrighteousness to remain and even be accepted. While we can not go around demanding others to clean up their act, we can and should consider our own life, before Him, as He is ever present and longs for us to be free from all evil, in believing, and to be doers of His word and not just hearers.

As I read this post, I thought of the story of Jesus at the home of Martha and Mary (Lk 10:38-42). Martha loved Jesus,but, she was sliding back toward the world; in danger of becoming one of the people Jesus spoke of in Mark 4:18-19 - "Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life......come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful."

Martha was being a good hostess. She was working very hard, doing all the "right" things, following all the rules of etiquette in laying out a feast for Jesus. But, she was missing the whole purpose of His ministry. He hadn't come to earth to be the honored guest at dinner parties. He came "...to seek and to save that which was lost" (see Lk 19:10) and Mary had positioned herself at His feet as a disciple. Everything else was secondary to her.
