What the Bible says about marriage

The Bible discusses how relationships with our wives and husbands should be, but I need some assistance clearing a few things up. The Bible talks about marriage in Ephesians 5:22-33 and it sort of fuzzy to me.

It says "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church" but it also says in the beginning of the verses "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord".

Those verses are what is confusing. If the wife is supposed to submit to the husband and the husband is supposed to love his wife as much as Christ loved the church, then the husband should treat the wife as he would want to treat himself, right?

I need some verification here.

As much as i understand this, first submission from the wife.

Love means treating her (neighbour) as yourself, yes as the greatest commandment says.

Look at what happened in the garden without submission, eve was deceived.

It isn't even really about just treating her right. If the husband is to love his wife like Christ loves the Church...and gave himself up for the Church...that means, to me, that the husband is to put his wife first and the wife is to submit to her own husband.

I'm married and it is wonderful, but it is hard for me to try to be sacrificial to my husband when he's been that way, too. But it is sure fun to find out how to do things. We aren't perfect, but we are perfect for each other.

The wife is to submit and respect her husband and the husband is to love his wife...if they both do that...the other will treat them right. And it goes in a nice circle.

Of course, that doesn't mean that everything will be nice and easy, but it sure helps.

as you see from this, the rebellion of Eve did not stop here; it is normal for individuals to want to do their own thing for themselves, but Paul is encouraging each person to show agape for one another, especia;;y in marriage.
Entering a marriage relationship for any other reason than to give of themselves is putting the marriage on shaky ground.
Agape (wanting the absolute best for the one loved, regardless of response) is what is reccommended here
