Who can understand [his] errors? Cleanse me from secret [faults]. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous [sins]; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. Psalm 19:12-13 NKJV
The psalmist writes that errors can be difficult to discern without God’s guidance and mercy. Surely everyone can come up with an explanation or justification for sinful behavior, whether or not such explanations are sincere and honest. In addition, the psalmist notes that even the truly obvious willful sins can be challenging to avoid. Even for the obvious sins, he asks God for help and deliverance from the sins that could rule over him.
What is your position today when it comes to sin? Do you fear God and hope to remain blameless and pure before Him? Or do you hope to escape God’s notice for now, eventually taking advantage of His mercy and patience?
The struggle for today is to ask God for discernment and protection to help you avoid sin. Temptation will always be a part of your life, and you could stumble into sinful acts when you least expect it. Today’s prayer from psalms can help you remain close to God and in His good favor.
