1. There Is One God
- Deuteronomy 6:4 — “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”
Christian Understanding:
- Christianity affirms the Shema but introduces the concept of the Trinity: one God in three persons — Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit (see Matthew 28:19).
2. The Messiah Was Foretold in the Hebrew Scriptures
Christians believe the Hebrew Bible contains prophecies about the coming of a Messiah that Jesus fulfilled.
Messianic Prophecies (as interpreted by Christians):
- Born of a virgin – Isaiah 7:14 → fulfilled in Matthew 1:22–23
- Born in Bethlehem – Micah 5:2 → Matthew 2:1
- From the line of David – Jeremiah 23:5–6 → Luke 3:23–38
- Suffer for the sins of others – Isaiah 53 → 1 Peter 2:24
- Pierced and rejected – Psalm 22, Zechariah 12:10 → John 19:34–37
- New Covenant promised – Jeremiah 31:31–34 → Hebrews 8:8–13
3. All Humans Are Sinful and Need Redemption
- Ecclesiastes 7:20 – “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.”
- Psalm 14:3 – “There is none who does good, not even one.”
- Isaiah 64:6 – “All our righteous acts are like filthy rags.”
Christianity teaches that the Law (Torah) reveals sin but cannot save (Romans 3:20). Salvation is through faith, not works.
4. Jesus Is the Promised Messiah and Son of God
- Claimed to be the Messiah – John 4:25–26
- Claimed divinity – John 8:58, referencing Exodus 3:14 (“I AM”)
- Performed miracles – Healing, raising the dead, calming storms, etc. (Mark 4–6)
- Fulfilled prophecy – Christians interpret many Old Testament texts as pointing to Jesus.
5. Jesus Died for the Sins of Humanity
- Isaiah 53:5–6 – “He was pierced for our transgressions... the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
- Psalm 22 – Seen as describing the crucifixion.
- New Testament:
- Romans 5:8 – “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
6. Jesus Rose from the Dead
- Psalm 16:10 – “You will not let your Holy One see decay” → Acts 2:25–31
- Eyewitnesses of resurrection – 1 Corinthians 15:3–8
This resurrection is seen as God's stamp of approval on Jesus’ identity and mission.
7. Salvation Comes by Faith in Jesus, Not by Works or the Law
- Ephesians 2:8–9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith... not a result of works.”
- Romans 3:28 – “We hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.”
Christians see this as a shift from covenant based on the Law (Sinai) to a New Covenant based on grace through Jesus.
8. The Gospel Is for All People – Jews and Gentiles
- Genesis 12:3 – “In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
- Isaiah 49:6 – “I will make you a light for the nations.”
- Romans 1:16 – “To the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
9. The Holy Spirit Transforms Believers
- Ezekiel 36:26–27 – “I will put my Spirit within you.”
- John 14:16–17, Acts 2 – Promise and outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
- Galatians 5:22–23 – The Spirit produces fruit (love, joy, peace, etc.)
10. A Call to Repentance and Faith in Jesus
- Acts 2:36–38 – “Repent and be baptized... in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
- Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
In summary:
- You are part of the covenant people.
- The Messiah has come, Jesus.
- He fulfilled the Law and the Prophets.
- Through Him, forgiveness and eternal life are offered.
- Faith, not the works of the Law, brings salvation.
