What Is Love?

by HeLeN Steiner Rice

What is Love
No words can define it
It’s something so great
Only God could design

Wonder of wonders,
Beyond man’s conception
And only in God
Can love find true perfection,

For love is enduring
And patient and kind
It judges all things
With the heart not the mind

And love can transform
The most commonplace
Into beauty and splendor
And sweetness and grace..

For Love is unselfish
Giving more than it takes,
And no matter what happens
Love never forsakes,

It’s faithful and trusting
And always believing ,
Guileless and honest
And never deceiving ….

Yes love is beyond
What man can define,
For love is immortal
And God’s gift is divine !

*Jaws dropped*

That is truly inspirational! Great poem. Thank you for posting this.

Been a long time since I read any poem, let alone one like this that is short, simple, sweet.

One of the ways of discovered how deep THE TRUE LOVE is !
Is that TRUE LOVE could not be explain by words ...
And that is what this poem is teaching us.
No one would never define LOVE.
We could only FELL IT ...
IN DISPITE OF DIFERENCES, GENDER, IN DISPITE OF ITS COLOR ...
MAYBE ONLY SILENCE COULD DEFINE IT WELL ...
NO WORDS ...
ONLY SILENCE ...
WE CAN FEEL IT BUT NEVER DEFINE IT ...
AND THAT'S THE BEST, THE ONLY THING IMPORTANT ...
AND BIBLE SAIS :

Romans 8 - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Best way to know what love really is live HIM.

GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU

God is good

That was beautiful, I think I'm in love with LOVE.

It's the greatest gift we can give anyone,

tiago benjamin well said.

Volumes of truth in the Gospel

I love the words of truth in this poem. And the sprituality how it touchs the important points of love in Christianity. How this is not just any love but the love of christ. Great Poem!

All of us know you are falling in love, rs rs rs rs ...

I have no doubt you are fall in love with love ... rs rs rs rs rs rs :star:
k k k k k ...
Its too good hear about you talking about LOVE THIS WAY ...
You true believe in Love and when we hear you talking about love so kindly our so could rest :ip:
God made woman not only because man was alone.
god creted the first woman because the first man - Adam, had everything he would need, but in dispite of have all the things he needs he did't knew LOVE YET, that's the only thing that were lacking and that's were the most important ...
What about never LOVE anyboby ? ? ? ?
God wanted man had the same notion of He fells for us.
Was His desire Man would know exactly what he fells for His fiancée.
He wanted we to take a taste of what he fells.
LOVE IS THE HIGHEST COMMANDMENT ! ! !
AND LOVE WE ARE CAPABLE TO SHARE ONE WITH THE OTHER IS THE HORIZONTAL STAFF OF THE CROSS.
FIRST LOVE JESUS ABOVE EVERYTHING, VERTICAL STAFF OF THE CROSS. AFTER LOVE EACH OTHER.
WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU BE BLESSED.

It’s faithful and trusting

And never deceiving

Hi,

in John 3:16, we are told....

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

and while we often look at this verse and read it as an important verse about believing in Him, we can overlook Him and focus more on believing...

.... in other words, we can put too much emphasis on the believing part and totally miss who it is we are really believing in...

look again and see just what this powerful verse says and what it tell us about the one in whom we are believing in....

For God so loved the world.... that He gave His only begotten Son,.....

are we just believing in a God who is just a God? Or are we believing in His love, because, there is no difference between the two.... how do I know?

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and
His love is perfected in us.
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.
And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
And we have known and believed
the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

We love him, because He first loved us.
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
1John 4:7-21

So let us look afresh at this verse and see that in believing in Him, we must, must believe in the magnitude and grace of His love.... if we can not grasp this about God, then we can not believe in Him.... and as we see the total giving to us of His only begotten Son... because He loves us almost beyond description, because HE is Love.... we are set free into His eternal refuge of love.

Bless you ....><>

If you are having any trouble at all about understanding the immense volume of His love towards us, weigh it if you can in these scales....

begin to try to grasp the value of the shed blood of Christ Jesus ,

God's only begotten Son....

......the value that the shed blood of Jesus is to His Father in Heaven.....

continue to weigh such a holy measure of love....

and now see and believe that, that measure of love....

is how much He loves...

........... YOU

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
.......Jesus in John 15:9-14

hello..
Can I ask..
why does God love us?
Is it because of His grace towards us,that it becomes compassion for mankind, which is translated to love?

I'm sorry if I sound cynical..But things happened recently and I'm just trying to clear my doubts..

Greetings Ritsuka,

quite simply put,

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1John 4:16

So does He need any other reasons?

Bless you ....><>

Why do I love my children? Because they are my children. Until I became a father, I did not know the love that I could give to my children. It is a love that just is.... why? Because they are my children, and I am their father.

Grace is the outpouring of love to us even though we, the human race have rejected the Lord and resisted His love and even rebelled against Him. It can be spelt like this...

God's
Riches
At
Christ's
Expense

Hello Br Bear,
Thank you for giving me something to chew on..
I've been getting cynical lately..and guess I just needed to be put in place..

thank you..

Dear sister Ritsuka,

I too have had times when I have almost become cynical.... but I have found, not by my own strength and wisdom, but by God's grace alone, that it is far better to marvel at His great love.... and become so in awe at His love that all traces of cynicism are gone forever.

Bless you, in Jesus name,

Br. Bear

Hey Br Bear.
I don't know. It's just so difficult to not be cynical.
I mean,what exactly is love?
People get married, and divorced within 5 years on the average..
Didn't they love each other?
I loved my friend, but she commited suicide cos she said she loved me, and didn't want to add onto my daily load of burdens..
Her death added more load than her life ever gave me

What IS love?

Love is...

Dear Ritsuka,

you ask, What IS love?

I mean,what exactly is love?
People get married, and divorced within 5 years on the average..
Didn't they love each other?

and say this....
I loved my friend, but she commited suicide cos she said she loved me, and didn't want to add onto my daily load of burdens..
Her death added more load than her life ever gave me

So, shall we look at love by looking at divorce, where two souls, after getting up out of the love-puddle that they fell into, begin quickly to look at themselves, at their position in this thing they call love, with the man strutting proudly around claiming, "I am in love!", and the woman delighting in the fact that she is loved, where they soon become alienated by their self absorbtion, looking to their own needs, rather than doting again upon each other as they did while in the besotted state of falling in love?

Or shall we look at love as from a suicidal end to life, where a person has become so engrossed in themselves to the point where they will even project their troubles upon another, seeking to end the misery that they have become enslaved to? (Please understand, Ritsuka, I am not judging your friend. I have known far too many who have suicided, I have carried them to their graves, and I have mourned their passing, and I have wondered if I could have been there for them more than I was... all too late to think about it though, and comforted countless grieving friends and relatives, becoming involved in government grief and trauma counseling... etc, etc, etc...)

So, what then is love?

We know that Jesus said that greater love hath no man than this... that He lay down his life for a friend.....
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
These things I command you, that ye love one another.
John 15:9-17

We also know that Jesus died for the sins of the world... Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 so, is that what love is?

Let us look at what is involved in laying down our lives....

Jesus dying on the cross was only the finale of His giving of Himself, and this is where you will find a clue as to what the answer is.... you see, Jesus died because of love, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Many agree that this tells us how important it is to believe.... and it is crucial, no doubt about it. However, what are we believing, that He died? What of the love? Let us look more at that love, that giving love, and let us believe in God's love, because God is love, and it is in His constant love toward us that we have our hope, we have our comfort and strength, and when we consider the magnitude of His giving , of His sacrifice, we see that it began way before the cross, and was poured out in the life of Jesus ...from day one of His life here....

He was born, not in a hospital, not in a comfortable and safe home, not even in a hotel... but in an animal car-park, a garage for anmals, amidst the stench of dung and animal sweat... maybe a few cockroaches and rats... even fleas and lice...(why not? It was extremely busy at the time, with people coming from near and far, using animals to travel, and being the evening, there the animals would be relieving themselves and sharing all their personal freeloaders like nits and mites, etc.....)

So.... OK, so what? Well, here's what love is.......

just Who was born that night? Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.
1Chronicles 29:11
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Hebrews 2:9-10

Yes, this Jesus started in such a lowly place.... Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:6-8 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:
And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
Colossians 1:16-17

Can you see what abode He left to come here, how He began to give His life right from the start, not taking anything for Himself?

Straight away, He was forced to depart to a foreign land with His family, under threat of slaughter, seeking asylum as a refugee....

When He later returned and began His ministry, He immediately came under attack, from those He came to love... and He continued giving and loving, laying down His life, being harassed, ridiculed, hunted, rejected, mocked, betrayed... misunderstood and opposed.... and after getting a savage beating which would see the end of you and I, while hanging with gruesome nails through His healing, loving, feeding, forgiving, comforting, outstretched hands after having done so much for so many, with the horrific chant of, "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!", still echoing in the minds of His killers and those round about... WATCHING! Him die... what did Jesus say?

Father..... forgive them.

What is love?

I pray you have become more familiar with Him and His love, Ritsuka, and I also pray that you find great comfort in perhaps the best explanation in the Bible, in all literature the world over from all times.....

it is the shortest verse in the Bible....

and I hope you see something of what love is in it...

from John 11:35....

Jesus wept

Bless you,

Br. Bear
