Then he said, "I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 18:3-4 NLT
Jesus frequently addressed His disciples’ delusions and misplaced priorities when they imagined themselves sitting on thrones next to Jesus the King. They believed they would have places of honor where important people would notice and admire them. When they traveled with Jesus, they dismissed the very people Jesus came to save, such as a corrupt tax collector, a promiscuous woman, and children who sought the blessing of God. Yet the humility and trust of the children before them showed the clearest picture of greatness in God’s kingdom.
What if today’s passage became a daily assignment, an invitation to observe the way children trust their parents or humbly reply on others? How have you seen children model the type of faith that Jesus desires?
You also have an opportunity to consider who you are most likely to notice. Are you paying attention to the people Jesus welcomed? Such priorities may help you figure out what you value and where you have placed your faith.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to notice and imitate the people who humble themselves and who place their faith and trust wholly in You.
