When life is thrown into turmoil or uncertainty, you’ll need to hold on to something for support and stability. The question is whether you will choose to hold on to the right thing when life feels out of control, or all appears lost. The little decisions and choices you make each day have a way of adding up and showing their true value under such circumstances.
Just as the people of Israel faced the temptation to rely on the gods of neighboring peoples, you may be tempted to place your trust in your wealth, influence, planning, or accomplishments to carry you through the challenges of life. Joshua reminds you that compromise will be disastrous and will fail to deliver the security you desire. The alternative is to cling to the Lord, depending on Him daily for your provision, comfort, and stability. This habit of living by faith daily will help you remain faithful, even when all appears lost.
Prayer: Help me, Lord, to live with a consistent heart commitment to You, placing my full faith and trust in You alone.
