- We're Never Alone -

Psalm 100:3, "We are His people and the sheep of His pasture"
John 14:18, "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you"

Jesus Christ is just as real today as He was when He walked on this earth those thousands of years ago, and even though He doesn't move among us physically, by the Holy Spirit, He is here, there, everywhere, a continuous living presence, outside of us and inside of us. That may be a terrifying thought for some people. Perhaps you don't like yourself, or you're contemplating all the bad things you've done. Insecurity and sin can create a sense of fear, awkwardness, and clumsiness in Jesus' presence; however think of what you know about Him. Despite what you are or what you may have done:

(1) He loves you as you are (Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:7-11); and,
(2) He will never leave you nor forsake you (John 14:18; Hebrews 13:5).

Despite what you are or what you may have done or what others may think of you:

(1) Others may not think much of you or invite you to spend time with them, but Jesus does (Matthew 11:28);
(2) Others may not like the way you look, but He looks at your heart (1 Samuel 16:7; Luke 28:38); and
(3) Others may think you're a bother because you're old and in the way, but He will love you to the end (Romans 8:35-39).

If you’re a member of God’s family, having accepted Christ as your Savior, Jesus loves you and will never leave you in spite of all the conditions that cause others to turn away. He wants to change you to be like Him, but He loves you as you are, and will never abandon you. You belong to His family; you will never, ever be alone. Jeremiah 31:3 says this, "I have loved you with an everlasting love". The Scriptures succinctly tell us that the heavenly Father intimately understands each of His children. 2 Timothy 2:19 puts it this way, "The Lord knows those who are His." He knows their every thought and emotion, and is "acquainted with all their ways" (Psalm 139:3). From morning until night He gives personal attention to all their circumstances.

Further reflection:

I'm mindful of the words of King Solomon's bride, "I am my beloved, and my beloved is mine.” This beautifully portrays the security of a husband and wife who know they belong to each other. In a good marriage, this sense of belonging extends to the whole family. Parents speak of their children with love and pride. The children speak affectionately of their mother, father, brother and sister.

My friend, this sense of belonging and being loved is available to all who acknowledge God as their Father. However, many people don't recognize God as their Creator and Owner. They see themselves as orphans in a mindless universe, accidents of nature who have no purpose, meaning, or hope. Believers in Christ, however, can rejoice with the psalmist, "We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." We are His forever! We are His and He belongs to us and thus we shall never, ever be alone. Praise the Lord!

My friend, we need the eternal love of God, who is love. He views each of us as priceless. Moreover the gospel reveals that we have such love in the Person of God's Son, Jesus Christ, and His love will never let us go. Simply put, if you know Jesus Christ, as your Savior, you'll never walk or be alone.
