We should love God moreWe should give our allWe should just let goWe should hear no callBut the one he makesTo our busied earsSaying "I am GodKeep your silence here"We should close our mouthsLet our tongues relaxLet him take the weightFrom our bending backsAs he whispers peaceTo our warring mindsAs he lays us downAs he draws the blindsWe should walk awayFrom the things we loveWe should be the pushedWhen push comes to shoveWe should lay our livesOn the altar's stonesLet the fire consumeAll our flesh and bones'Til there's nothing leftOf the life we knewWe should be destroyedAnd be made anewWe should never thinkThat our elbow greaseHelps us bridge the gapGives us perfect peaceAll our muscles tensedAll our striving sweatNever could repayThe enormous debtIt is only ChristAnd his dying groansAnd his poured-out bloodAnd the displaced stoneThat can free our soulsFrom the hell we've madeFrom our constant sinOur self-killing blade
