and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And they went into a house. Mark 3:19 NKJV
You read through Mark and find a list of names. These names belonged to men who followed Jesus. Disciples. And at the very end of that list? “Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.”
Judas was that guy—the one who broke rank and forsook the One who does not forsake. Judas did something he would be remembered for, but not in a good way. His life choices left him shaken and he never got over it.
This disciple not only abandoned Jesus—he betrayed Him. He pretended to follow and then walked away. He encountered love, but he didn’t think it was enough.
A six-word verse makes it clear that some people will struggle with certainty. They can encounter God the Rock yet conclude that He is an unstable foundation. They trust only their own conclusions, which leaves them shaken, uncertain, and weak.
Judas did not endure, persevere, or hold on. He trusted money, himself, and his vision of the future. He lived upside down—shaken. He had the proof of three years with Jesus, but that didn’t lead him to real, abundant, forever life.
Don’t be that guy.
Prayer: God, I want to make a fresh commitment to follow You today. Help me do it again tomorrow. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and dream dreams that don’t include You. But I want to live unshaken, to endure without second thoughts, and to persevere in my walk with You—because You give me strength.
