So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:48
One day a huge Philistine army marched up the Valley of Elah, but the Israelite army learned they were coming and blocked their advance at the town of Socoh. Then an enormous man named Goliath, covered in heavy armor, stepped forward and challenged any Israelite soldier to face him in single combat. Only David accepted his challenge.
Saul offered David his armor and sword, but after trying them on, David realized that he didn’t stand a chance using conventional methods. So, grasping his shepherd’s staff, he walked down to the brook, picked five stones, and slipped them into his pouch. Then he headed up toward the giant. The only weapon Goliath could see was David’s staff, so he roared, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” (1 Samuel 17:43).
Suddenly David rushed the giant. Startled, Goliath grinned, He really is gonna try to hit me with that stick. At the last moment, David dropped his staff, thrust a stone into his sling, began swinging it, then let it fly with punishing force. Goliath never realized what David was about to do until it was too late
When you face impossible circumstances, God can inspire you with crazy, unconventional solutions. Be open to them! They can work when nothing else will.
