I know the bible says that true worshippers worship in spirit and in truth. But I have a question that's quite different from that. I currently attend a church that says that we are not to worship God through our emotions- no jumping during songs, dancing, etc. This gets me really confused..? Can someone explain this to me or direct my view to the right direction?

Thank you sister for the post.

Why do we have to create laws and religious rules which doesnt benefit us totally, yet Christ has delivered us from all these, it shows how the church has failled to accept and appreciate God's precious gift of Grace. This is very sad.

The bible says David sang and danced with all His might, the best he knew how, that others failed to understand him. The same bible teaches, let everything that has breathe praise the Lord, if we dont God will raise up stones to worship and praise Him. Why should someone tell me to stop dancing and jumping for my Lord yet the bible encourages this......infact i can do exactly the opposite for i know where God has taken me from and where he's leading me, so no one should shut me down.

Sister, We are in liberty... free to worship and praise Him the best we know how. Infact where i originally come from we worship in Spirit and in truth...Some kneel down...lie down on the floor....some jump up you may think they're mad.....some run all over the building just to show there praises and love to God. I think its high time you think twice about that fellowship....Ask the Holy spirit to help you discern such things, But as for me i could have left long time...can't stand such traditions/laws. I was created to Worship and Praise Him.:singing:

The law was unable to save me from death but Jesus came to deliver me from this laws.....Why should i be bound again by it, yet it doesn't have power to save me?

I don't know if this helps to answer.

(1 Corinthians 14:15) What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

If you want to dance, I don't think it's entirely wrong but it's not "required"/"needed".
Singing with understanding and in spirit is what is important.

I hope this comes as a blessing.

Wow

This is really true and I have to say I agree with you..

But..

However, does this have anything to do with being orderly in the church as God tells us?

Arlyn,

I think that your church has developed an erroneous view of worship. Worship is supposed to be a celebration of who God is and what He's done. Its true that first century worship had to be reined in to a certain extent because many of the new believers came out of paganism and as such, were used to rowdy celebrations.

But I believe that in many modern churches, the pendulum has swung too far the other way. Today, too many Christians adopt the "frozen Chosen" attitude. They remind me of the old one-line joke that says, "If you're happy, you'd better notify your face."

Many of these "dignified" Christians put down the pentecostal and charismatic churches for their worship styles, but I maintain that those churches are closer to having it right than the frozen chozen types.

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music." (Ps 100:4)

BALANCE is important

I would say trying to dance while wedged between people and seats could cause chaos, but at the outer end or behind everyone, dance your heart out.
Then, others will enjoy & maybe even join in OR ignore, but that is their choice.
If your church won't even accept that, then I would suggest changing churches.
God never said praise & worship Me JUST with your mouth. :coocoo:

Hey here's a link to youtube video that tells "why do we worship".

(edited by LLJ)

I hope it blesses you. Worship really is simply singing about the greatest love that is God, Jesus Christ.

The reason I live is to worship God.

Worship is a lifestyle. Not something to do only on a Sunday. We worship Jesus with all our being.

Everything we do we do for Jesus.

God is seeking true worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4.23

God bless

I think there should be liberty to worship and I have been exposed to all kinds back when I participated in religious liturgy. But even the charismatic worship style can still be very carnal. My own experiences have left me with the impressions that most of our worship is carnal and geared toward what other's think from the very conservative to the very extreme and all along the way. Most people act out of character when in a religious meeting. If you don't dance for Jesus when you are all alone don't do it in front of the congregation. Just be yourself that is what it means to worship in truth.

Good post LLJ I totally agree

Thank you Jesus Praise God...WOW what a beautiful thing to be in the presence of such fellowship.

In a recent service the pastor mentioned how good the "lost" can worship, Score a touch down and the hands go up, the clapping begins, and the dancing is on. Let the politicans make a "good" statement and once again the clapping begins and the cheering gets started.

I can get caught up in that type of "emotion" when I watch my team play sometimes too and have now started asking myself why not give that type of praise to my Creator instead of worldly men?

This is something that I too have been struggling with and am looking to the Lord for the answer and the strength, courage to do what is "right" because yes sometimes I do feel "moved" to do such things and just can't seem to let go. I recently read Proverbs 2 and WOW the Lord is great.

Not that it means anything but I also agree with the posts from Jiggyfly and LadyLovesJesus.
Praise God and God bless

I believe that as we grow in our love for (and focus on) the Lord, our preoccupation with the thoughts and opinions of those to our left and our right and those in front and behind diminishes.

I came to Christ and was filled with the Spirit nearly twenty-five years ago and God moved me into a church body where the Holy Spirit is truly free to move. However, it wasn't until, perhaps, ten years ago that I really began to loosen up emotionally and physically express my love for Jesus.

We're having our monthly N.O.W. event (Night Of Worship) at my church tonight. Its an hour and a half long - more or less - with a short teaching and the rest of the time devoted to vibrant worship. Will I be carnally minded during worship? Sometimes, for very short periods, the answer will be "yes". It is still my nature to be concerned with what the person sitting behind me is thinking. But hopefullly, it will only be a few seconds before I'm re-focused on God.

As my friends in Alcoholics Anonymous say: "You wouldn't worry about what other people think of you if you realized how seldom they do."

Brothers and sisters- do as the spirit moves you to do. If dancing around is how you experience the spirit, by all means find a church that lets you do this. Personally, that's just not me. Not everyone experiences kinestmatics the same way. Interesting question- I can't say I get excited in church like I get excited in, say, sports games. Is that what ya'll are talking about? I do definately have a profound emotional connection that's related to the recitation of powerful words of prayer with a single voice, and singing hymns. It's not uncommon that at various times I find myself moved to tears in church (and I definately don't tear up pretty much ever save death of those close to me otherwise) It's meaningful for me and so I go to the longest, most 'high church' service. It's all about what moves you, but don't assume that just because there's staid repetition that we're all doing things by rote in the other camp

I completely agree with you! I also feel we need a lot more praising and worshipping daily and less mouthing and stressing - yea know? I know it's easier said than done for some because life is not a bowl of cherries. But it is not impossible to find time to either start the day or end the day with a little worshipping. A great time would actually be in your car on the way to work - keep the stress down. Granted you can't dance around and just really let loose but still - you can rejoice! I love music and I am kind of out of the loop on all new Christian music here.
