There is an idea (I agree with ) that humans are made up of three parts.
We have a body, a soul, and a spirit. I think it would be difficult for anyone to refute that.

Our soul/mind if where decisions are made. This is where spiritual warfare is really fought.
Our body is the gateway to the soul. What we see, what we hear, what we touch affects our decisions.
The decisions we make, affects our spirit.
I think it would also be difficult for anyone to refute that God allows us to be tested from time to time.
Heb 11:17; 1 Pet 1:7; Rev 2:10; 2 Cor 13:6;
Deut 13:3; you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Ezek 21:13 "For there is a testing; and what if even the rod which despises will be no more?" declares the Lord GOD.
Abraham was tested... ( Heb 11:17; )
Peter was tested... ( Luke 22:31; )
and even Jesus was tested... ( Matt 4:1; Mark 1:13; )
Often we are tested with our body.
When the temple was built... there were many regulations about how tall, how wide, how
big the courtyard was, what kind of wood it had to built of.
Your body is a temple... and it also has many regulations attached.
No fornication, no adultery, no homosexuality. Even doing things to harm "the temple" such as over-eating
over-drinking are addressed in the Bible. Smoking isn't specifically addressed, but I think it would
qualify as harming the temple.
In the book of Daniel... his body was tested. his was really about unclean food.
Dan 1:8; but Daniel made up his mind (in advance) not to be defiled by this food.
(Some Bibles say he "resolved" not to be defiled).
If we wait until we are in the heat of the battle to "make up our mind", it's probably already too late.
If we wait until our girl friend or boyfriend is taking off their clothes... it's probably too late.
I suspect this is where many Christians fail. Right at the basic first layer of testing.
Many fail to keep their bodies pure before the Lord.
Our souls and spirits are also tested. Peter's body wasn't tested, but his "resolve" ( Luke 22:33; John 13:37; )
was tested. Even though Peter has already promised to follow Jesus even unto death. He chickened out
in the fear of the moment.
Jesus was similarly tested.
Satan told Him to turn the stones into bread. Jesus hadn't eaten in 40 days.
I'm sure He was hungry. His body was probably reminding Him it was hungry. But just because
our body wants something doesn't mean we have to give in.
Jesus's soul was also tested... Satan told Him to bow down and worship him.
Satan owned all the kingdoms of the earth at that time, he had the ability to give them to Jesus.
Jesus had to make a decision... it's good for us that He made the right one.
I personally believe we will all be tested, likely multiple times.
Likely in multiple ways... against body, soul and spirit. Will you pass the test? ( 2 Cor 13:5-6; )
Are you resolved? Have you made up your mind?
Or are you tossed about... ( Eph 4:14; ) by all the waves that come to test us.
