Then Jesus said to them, "You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures. Wasn't it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?" Luke 24:25-26 NLT
As His disciples struggled to believe the reality of the coming resurrection, Jesus expressed dismay that they had failed to believe something spelled out clearly in the scriptures and in His own teachings. Is it possible that such promises were too good to be true? Why was it so hard to believe the really good news of Jesus?
Perhaps you haven’t quite imagined how wonderful the promises of the resurrection or your home with God really are. Perhaps you haven’t fully grasped that God’s Spirit is dwelling in you or that Jesus could never forsake you. It’s understandable that you may not want to be disappointed if it’s not true…or perhaps you just find it a little too “out there.”
Yet, the many eyewitness accounts, generations of Christians, and the power of God on display today all serve as reminders that these stories are true and offer real comfort to the suffering and needy today. After the resurrection, a risen Savior walked among His people and more or less said, “What did you expect would happen?”
Prayer: Jesus, help me to believe the wonderful promises You give Your people.
