Scripture Reading — John 20:24-29

Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

— John 20:24

I can understand Thomas’s doubt. For whatever reason, he wasn’t with the other disciples when Jesus first visited them after his resurrection, so he hadn’t seen Jesus firsthand. Maybe he should have taken the disciples’ word for it when they told him they had seen Jesus. Maybe he should have had more faith. Or maybe he was just an untrusting sort of person. Whatever the case, Thomas said he just couldn’t believe Jesus was alive until he saw Jesus for himself.

When Jesus came again and Thomas could see him, Jesus was patient with Thomas. Jesus even showed Thomas what he said he needed to see in order to believe. But Jesus also noted that all who believe without seeing him will be blessed.

Today that includes you and me. Belief without seeing is the nature of our faith most of the time. We probably won’t see Christ in person until we join him in eternity. Until then, though, we believe even though we have not seen.

We are called to have faith in Jesus for who he is, all he has done, and all he has promised. We believe because others have seen, because others have witnessed, and because their testimony is in God’s Word to us, along with all of God’s promises. We believe because the Spirit of God guides us into the truth of God’s Word and gives us faith (see John 16:7-15; Ephesians 2:6-10). And in believing we are blessed.

Lord, help us to believe even though we have not seen. By your Spirit, lead us to know the truth that brings life in you. Amen.

Thanks, I would offer.

Not doubting Thomas but unbelieving, no faith, Thomas.

The opposite of faith is no faith or unbelief.

Doubt is part of the thinking process determining which road. In that way the bible is not against doubt but is against wavering long between the two .

Yes, dear one more minute LOL

1 Kings 18:21;And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Satan the king of lying signs to wonder, wonder, wonder after as if true prophecy. He is the accuser of the brethren, every time they doubt, he accuses.

it can be seen in Job in prayer with the prayers of all the born-again believer sons of God. Accuses them because of doubt.

Job 1:6-7Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .( Accusing believers every time they doubt )

In that way John 20 is not changing the law of walking by faith as the unseen things of God. . into walk by sight looking the dying temporal.

The father demonstrating through Jesus the Son of man the apostle. . reach your finger then lovingly powerfully commands Thomas to not be faithless (not doubtless) but rather believe with all his own new born again heart and soul and mind.

Thomas as a confession of Christ's powerful faith. Thomas prophesied. My Lord and my God.

John 20:26-28;And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
