Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

If God so willed it we could live without bread, even as Jesus did for forty days; but we could not live without His Word. By that Word we were created, and by it alone can we be kept in being, for he sustaineth all things by the Word of His power. Bread is a second cause; the Lord Himself is the first source of our sustenance. He can work without the second cause as well as with it; and we must not tie Him down to one mode of operation. Let us not be too eager after the visible, but let us look to the invisible God. We have heard believers say that in deep poverty, when bread ran short, their appetites became short, too; and to others, when common supplies failed, the Lord has sent in unexpected help.

But we must have the Word of the Lord. With this alone we can withstand the devil. Take this from us, and our enemy will have us in his power, for we shall soon faint. Our souls need food, and there is none for them outside of the Word of the Lord. All the books and all the preachers in the world cannot furnish us a single meal: it is only the Word from the mouth of God that can fill the mouth of a believer. Lord, evermore give us this bread. We prize it above royal dainties.

I'm curious Christ4Ever, that is a wonderful instruction to all of us, especially to those of us who have known the Lord for many years. For me? I have been a student of the Scriptures since 1974 and for about 30+ years I studied the Scriptures to teach others in various situations. Now, I study for my own enjoyment and continued growth spiritually each day....My curiosity to you is, how much and why do you study the Scriptures based on your instruction to us on this Forum? I'm sure that we all could benefit from your experience.

Dear Brother @Chopper
I read your question once with great thought. Read it out loud and more insight. Now I type it in great joy! Brother I am just a lay person, who loves God, loves the Word of God, and desires to be a servant to each brother & sister in Christ Jesus as He provides.

Experience? :) In truth, I still feel a babe in the woods when it comes to scripture. Whenever I respond it may take me days to formulate what eventually becomes a post. Thought, prayer, and the desire that the person who is to read it, doesn't feel that an enemy combatant is responding, but rather a Brother in Christ who loves them regardless of the right and wrong of what is being communicated.

When I look back at many of them that I’ve posted. They come as a complete surprise! It’s as if someone else has put thought to paper, not I. For I can take no credit for it except where it may be deficient, and give to Him all the glory for the help it may provide to others.

At times it’s as if I’m pulling the bricks of the past brother to build the path that lies before me. Though unknown to me with any specificity the time/length of the path yet to be traveled. I rejoice that I'm allowed to travel it at all, and pass what little I have learned along the way to others.

I hope this answers at least in part what you've wanted to know.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

Thank you my Dear Brother for your wonderful reply. I hope that anyone who reads this will see how a life dedicated to knowing Christ Jesus more and more thru the Scriptures will produce a man of God like you. As I was reading your reply, I could feel a peace & love that only comes from the blessed Holy Spirit. I have come to know that when I sense that love & peace, I'm communicating with a special brother in Jesus.

It causes me great sadness when I speak to a man who hardly ever takes the time to study God's only instruction to us found in the Scriptures. That only produces a very shallow and most of the time, a defeated person who is supposed to be an over comer in this life.

You my friend, are a rare breed these days, and I want you to know that you and others who are living a good Christian life have been molded by Almighty God to be a part of the Bride for His soon coming Son, Who is the King of Kings and Lord of Lord's. You will have the privilege of being gathered to Jesus before the awful tribulation that will come to try those who are not as serious as you are for a serious walk before our Savior's eyes.

I had to chuckle when you wrote that when you look back over some of the posts of the past, you are surprised that you wrote them. Isn't that great?? I have witnessed the same as I look back at some of my own posts. Brother, that's when we know that our fingers are controlled by a greater power than what is ours, praise God's matchless Name. I imagine that there are times when you struggle to type as fast as the words that come into your mind. That's Holy Spirit inspiration and it gives us a chance to witness how God caused the Apostles and writers of our Scriptures to give us God's Holy Words.

Thank you C4E for being you.
