Whose choice is it anyway?
'CHOOSE...TODAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE...' JUSHUA 24:15
Peer pressure is a powerful thing. You want to be liked by people but at the same time you don't want to say yes to things that you know are going to have a bad ending. For example, if someone offers you a cigarette you are immediately faced with two choices.
1) You say yes to one, then that leads to another and then before you know it you're hooked and smelling like an ashtray.
2) You say no and have lungs that will last you a life time! You see God has given us the ability to make choices and to be able to know what is wrong from what is right; but often we try to place the blame of our bad choices on someone else. 'They made me do it.' Isn't an excuse you can use with God. Why? Because God has given us all free will and that means the ability to say No to peer pressure. When you say yes to something you are saying, 'I give you the right to have some form of control in my life.' That might sound like a bit of an overstatement but think about it, you'll find it's true every time.
So be careful what you agree to. There's never a situation where you can say 'But I had no choice.' You always have options and alternatives. When the choice is there you'll know deep down in your heart what the right decision is, you just need to ask God for the courage to choose it, no matter what your mates might think of you.
