Tough love
'PERFECT LOVE DRIVES OUT FEAR.' 1 JOHN 4:18
We all have things that make our palms sweat and our hearts race; God never said we wouldn't experience the emotion of fear. But He keeps saying: 'Fear not.' Why? Because he wants you to know that you do not meet your fear alone.
A big theme in the Bible is that what ever comes against God's kid's comes against Him too; and you don't have to read very much to realise you don't want to mess with Almighty God. King David wasn't always a King, he started out as a young shepherd boy.
One time a lion attacked his flock and in God's strength he defeated it, then a bear, and later he killed Goliath. The lion was just an opportunity in disguise. If David had chickened out or legged it, he'd have missed his chance to become king of Israel. So when a 'lion' comes into your life, recognize it for what it is: a chance to confront your fear stand up to it - and kick it in the teeth.
No Mercy! Frank Darabonut's film 'The Shawshank Redemption had a famous tag line, 'Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.' If we focus our attention on our fears they will get the better of us. But if we focus on God's perfect love for us and trust Him to guard us, (Psalms 91:11) fear has to flee.
Listen: 'Perfect love drives out fear.' (1 John 4:18). So the greatest weapon you have against the things you fear in your life is Love. Be confident in God's love for you and watch your fears melt.
