Spiritual intimacy
'That I may...become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him.' PHILIPPIANS 3:10
How annoying are couples in lurrrve? They have one topic of conversation: each other. Yuk - their secret whisperings and in-jokes, their long dreamy stares into each others eyes, how they can finish each others sentences off because they know exactly what the other is thinking; somebody pass the bucket, please! Actually, you'd have to know somebody intimately well to do those kind of things. Imagine knowing God that intimately. That's what Paul wanted: '[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognising and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly]' (Philippians 3:10 AMP).
What about you? Where's your relationship at? Imagine if your girl only ever phoned you when she needed your help out of a tricky situation, or if your boyfriend never said hello because he was always too busy; how shallow would that be? We'd never dream of treating our better half like that, yet sometimes that's how we can treat God. So here follows three quick lurrrve lessons to boost your relationship with God:
1) spend loads of time together. Chat, laugh and listen
2) share what's on your heart. Future, past and present
3) take the bad days with the good. Work at it, persevere. Get to know God intimately.
