Praying like Jesus
'THIS...IS HOW YOU SHOULD PRAY.' MATTHEW 6:9
Let's look at the prayer Jesus taught his disciples in Matthew 6:9-13. Every time you pray to your Father in Heaven it takes your friendship with Him to a deeper level. You're not only asking for God's input into your life but you're declaring your respect for Him because He really is your heavenly Dad, you can have complete assurance that you are His. He's not just the Creator of the universe, He's your Father.
You can create something and then not care much for it but true fathers have an attachment of love to their child, forever. There's more to this special prayer of Jesus... 'Hallowed be your name' means He's not just your Father, He's your God. You can love Him and be loved by Him but God is God and He deserves your respect. 'Your kingdom come,' releases God's power. 'Your will be done,' releases His purpose. 'Give us today our daily bread,' releases His provision. The things you lack and long for begin to flow into your life because now you've accessed His power, discovered His purpose for you and now you're walking in it. 'Forgive us our sins, as we also have forgiven those who sin against us' means it is easier to forgive when you recall the things God has forgiven you for. Remembering God's goodness to you will give you the grace to forgive others and even understand them! 'Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one' means we enter each day prepared for battle, promised victory and protected against all of the devil's attacks. That's why Jesus said, 'This...is how you should pray.'
