Our 'go-between'
'WE HAVE A GREAT HIGH PRIEST...JESUS THE SON OF GOD.' HEBREWS 4:14-16
Have you ever read the Old Testament and thought 'Phew, God was really scary back then, I'm glad He's nice now'?'
Well, although God can seem quite different, (He was a bit scary!) we sometimes forget He's the same God, He never changed! So how come we don't fear Him the way the Israelites used to? Back in the Old Testament the Israelites were so far from God; because they were only human and He is infinite; that they used to have a High Priest who was the go-between. He acted as a sort of bridge between people and God, High Priests were very Holy Joes!
Back in the OT Job was having a pretty rough time and wanted God to lay off him a bit, but he felt he needed someone like a High Priest to be the middle-man between him and God.
'God is not a man like me, so I cannot answer him. We cannot meet each other in court. I wish there were someone to make peace between us, someone to decide our case..' (Job 9:32-33 NCV). So if God is the same God today, and we have no High Priest, how come we're able to come to Him? Because of Jesus! Jesus became the new High Priest, the middle-man, the one to fight our corner, come to our defence and pray for us. He can understand what we're going through when we cry out to Him, and He has the power to act on our behalf.
When you know that you understand you can take anything to Jesus with total confidence that He's on your side.
