Mind clutter!
'ONE THING I ASK OF THE LORD, THIS IS WHAT I SEEK.' PSALM 27:4
If you're really serious about getting somewhere with God, start by having a think what's stopping you. That takes a bit of honesty.
The first job is dealing with the rubbish we fill our heads with. Here's a few examples of head rubbish:
1) Daydreaming! Listen, seriously, daydreaming and generally going about life with a head filled with imaginary conversations, beautiful thoughts, dream scenarios and exciting fantasies is not living! Ok, reality may sometimes be dull but if you need to escape think about the future, who you want to be, ask God for his dreams. Ladies, this may sound harsh but Shayne Ward is not going to ask you out, so forget it! And fellas, why are you watching Hollyoaks? - it definitely isn't for the clever storyline!
2) Sports and hobbies. This is hard to believe but there are more important things in the world than football and hockey. If you spend more time talking about your favourite hobby than anything else, how about trying to put a limit on it?
3) Gossip. It's impossible not to talk about other people, we're surrounded by them and they're involved in just about every single subject one way or another. But, think about what you're saying. Before you speak think, 'would I say it if they were in the room?' If not, keep your mouth shut! Remember though, use that rule wisely. It doesn't mean it's ok to be horrible just because you're happy to be horrible to their face too! Be disciplined with your mind. You can control your thoughts and what you think about is entirely your decision!
