GUARD YOUR HEART (2)

'GUARD YOUR HEART, FOR IT IS THE WELLSPRING OF LIFE.' PROVERBS 4:23

Yesterday you read about the role your heart plays in relation to the rest of your life. Whatever is in your heart will affect the rest of you; your attitudes, emotions, desires and motivation. So how do you guard your heart from the things that can have a bad affect on it? Here are some helpful tips:

1) When your mates start to talk about someone behind their back, don't join in. There is power in what you say, (James 3), so use your words for good instead of evil.

2) Make it a habit to think about good things 'I will praise the Lord at all times; his praise is always on my lips' (Psalm 34:1 NCV). Singing songs to God gets our focus on Him and off ourselves. It also reminds us how great God is and how we shouldn't let little things get to us. If something or someone starts to bother you, start to thank God for how good He has been to you and you'll soon chill out and move on.

3) Get to know His Word. When you read the Bible it shines a light on your path (Psalms 119:105) and helps lead you into good things rather than what is wrong. You will also get to know God's character so it will be easier to tell what things make Him happy and what doesn't. 4) Talk to Him. If something is bothering you, let Him know and ask for His help to deal with it. 'Trust in him at all times... pour out your hearts to him' (Psalms 62:8 NIV) and His peace will 'guard your heart today' (Philippians 4: 7)

How true are the words are,"There is power in what you say, (James 3), so use your words for good instead of evil." Our words are very powerful as they can either build someone up in a positive way, or tear someone down in a negative way.

I try to live by these thought patterns. If I can't say something nice about someone don't say it all. In most cases it does get back to the individual / individuals concerned and causes much disharmony. I am, however sinful, and can sometimes fail in this area, but my intentions are to look at the positives in others and speak well of them.

In my opinion, the building up of others in a positive and honest way is the way God would want it. The tearing down of others in a negative way, is not from God, so it must be evil.

Thank you for posting this article.
