Confession
'I SAID, "I WILL CONFESS MY TRANSGRESSIONS TO THE LORD" - AND YOU FORGAVE THE GUILT OF MY SIN.' PSALM 32:5
People who keep secrets from God also keep their distance from God. But people who are honest with God find themselves getting closer to Him every day. When you talk to God how honest are you with Him? Do you just tell Him what you think He wants to hear? Do you use words and phrases that you've hear 'holy people' use in prayer meetings? Or do you talk honestly, from the depths of your heart about what's really going on in your life, warts and all?
If you read Psalms you'll notice that a load of them are written by King David, they're poems and songs that are directed at God and they are brutally honest about how he feels, a mixture of passionate love and painful frustration for God and his people, '"...Have Mercy on me oh God..."' (Psalm 51:1), 'How priceless is your unfailing love!' (Psalm 36:7), 'But I call to God, and the Lord saves me' (Psalm 55:16). David made mistakes like any normal human being but he was honest with God, he didn't try and hide his mistakes. He tells God and knows that He won't be met with a big stick but with gentleness and forgiveness. 'People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart' (Proverbs 21:2 NLT).
God can see into every person's heart and knows all their secrets so it's pointless to try and hide when you talk to God, there's nothing you can tell Him that will shock Him. There's nothing you can say that will make Him love you any less. So be honest, you've got nothing to lose.
