Bigger isn't always better

'WHO...DESPISES THE DAY OF SMALL THINGS?' ZECHARIAH 4:10

While the world values the sensational and stunning, God loves to work through the ordinary and insignificant. In His Kingdom, bigger isn't always better. Back in the dark times of the Judges God gave Gideon victory over the Midianites. With God's help this complete no-hoper led an army of just 300 to beat a powerful enemy hundreds of thousands strong. That wasn't because there weren't enough soldiers; God just wanted to show His power in 'the day of small things.'

Jesus could have chosen any number of followers, but He hand picked just 12 to reach the world with the Gospel. On a mountain He fed 5,000 people with five rolls and two fish from a kid's lunch box. There's no minimum requirement where God's concerned! Jesus said, 'Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much' (Luke 16:10 NIV).

So if you're waiting for God to make you bigger instead of better, you'll probably be waiting for a very, very long time. All the prayers in the world won't pressure Him into giving you what you're not ready to handle. God's far more bothered about you becoming better through your character and relationship with Him than bigger through doing more things.

Trying to be bigger all the time can wear you out and stop you from enjoying what God's actually given you. Better may be harder to measure and not as glamorous, but in the long run you'll be stronger, experienced and a heck of a lot more stable. Ask God today to point out to you where you need to get the bigger vs better balance back in order.
