Have you asked God about it?

'THE MEN OF ISRAEL LOOKED THEM OVER AND ACCEPTED THE EVIDENCE. BUT THEY DIDN'T ASK GOD ABOUT IT.' JOSHUA 9:14

It's hard to stay humble when you've just walked through the Red Sea without getting wet and conquered Jericho, the biggest city in the Promised Land but getting cocky can be deadly! After their massive victories the Israelites got way too big for their boots and totally forgot to ask God about what to do next and the results were pretty bad. The crafty people from Gibeon realised they couldn't beat God's people so they sent out a team of negotiators to make peace with them and it worked! Joshua had no idea they were lying to him and signed a peace treaty.

It was one of the biggest mistakes of his life! From that day on these people made life very difficult for Joshua and the twelve tribes who lived to regret that he 'didn't ask God about it.' You probably won't have to get involved in complicated military situations like that but that's no reason not to pray.

It's frightening how quickly we can move from relying on God to relying on ourselves and it's way too easy to start trusting in a method because it worked in the past. Even worse is when we start living our lives a certain way just because 'that's what everybody else is doing'.

Hearing from God for yourself is what gives you the edge, leaving Him out is what gets you into trouble. If you're the type of person who moves too quickly or tends to do things in your own strength, get praying. Ask God to let you know when you're moving on your own rather than with Him. It'll save you lots of heartache!
