My pastor has spoken of her lately and I just wanted to share a few things I learned and to have us think of what we give to Jesus. Do we give our ALL? Our everything? Are we holding back parts of us?
Most know the story, but here are the verses.
Matthew 26:6-13
6 And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. 8 But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”
10 But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. 11 For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. 12 For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. 13 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”
There is much in the verses, but I want to point out that the woman gave her BEST...the most costly thing she had...as worship of Jesus. It matters not how much the flask cost, but how much she saw Jesus was worth. To her, Jesus was worth everything. She came where she was not wanted and toughed a man who should not have let her...to show a worship of someone that those present weren't sure of yet. The religious leaders and his disciples were thinking of earthly things...Jesus of heavenly.
Just image, what it would be like to give that much to Jesus. Do we really give our all? Or do we horde something?
Jesus, He gave His all. There was no drop of blood left in His body. Why then do we think we can just give part of us when He gave so much?
Oh Jesus, show me how to give my all to You! I want to do this not because of something I have heard, but because of who YOU ARE!
