I would say John 14:6; has to be in the top 10 verses quoted most frequently.
I hear this verse alot. I see it posted on TJ quite often. But what does it mean?

I believe this verse has a lot to do with how we perceive Jesus.

"I am the way". The way to what?
That verse ends with "no man comes to the Father, except through me".
So, OK Jesus is the way to the Father.

How is Jesus the way? He died for our sins and paid the price for our sins.
This is true... but is that it?

Matthew 7:13; says "the way" is broad that leads to destruction.
Of course this is figurative language. This isn't a literal road we walk down.
It's talking about the journey of life. The way we live, the choices we make.

In Matthew 7:14; Jesus says " the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."
Again, "the way".. is they way we live and the choices we make. Do we live like Jesus lived?
Do we make the choices Jesus would have made?
Mark 1:3; John the Baptist says "make ready the way of the Lord". What is the way of the Lord?
Luke 1:76; is similar. So is Luke 3:4;
Jesus had "a way" about Him. People loved Him, or people hated Him.
No one spoke the way Jesus did ( John 7:46; )

In John 10:1; Jesus talks about those who the sheeps pen. The master enters by the gate.
But thieves and robbers enter.. "another way".

Preceeding the verse this thread is about are two other verses... they are often missed.

In John 14:3; Jesus talks about "preparing a place for you".
In verse 4, He says "And you know the way where I am going".
verse 5. Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?"

Acts 2:28; ... "You have made known to me the ways of life" .... What is this way?
Acts 9:2; .. if he found any belonging to the Way"... It's interesting the word "Way" is capitalized here.
Why would it be a proper noun here? Because it wasn't just any way?

This seems to be a theme through the middle of the New testament.
Acts 16:17; "the way of salvation"
Acts 18:25; "the way of the Lord"
Acts 18:26; "the way of God"
Acts 19:9; "speaking evil of the Way" (again capitalized)
Acts 19:23; "no small disturbance concerning the Way"

There are more verses... ( Acts 24:14; Acts 24:22; etc.. )
But "the way" was the way Jesus was. The way was a lifestyle.
The way, is "the way" we love others, forgive others, love God, and live like Jesus.

... to be continued ...

"I am the truth"

John 8:32; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
If Jesus is the truth, and we need to know the truth.. do we need to know Jesus?

Jesus is the truth... what truth? In fact Pilate asked Jesus "what is truth" ( John 18:38; )
Jesus is the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word is God. ... and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Is the truth what Jesus did? Is the truth what Jesus taught? Is the truth how Jesus lived?
Jesus preached and taught the sermon on the mount. ( Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7)
He taught against lust, hating, hypocrisy, unforgiveness... and many other things.
Was this the truth? Is it truth for us? Is it truth for others? Is it truth for just the Jews? Is it truth
for just the people of Jesus' time? Is it a limited truth? Or is it the truth for everyone?

John 16:13; says when "the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth;"...

Was the way Jesus lived... having compassion, loving people, healing people, .. the truth?
Did Jesus live out the things He taught? Or was He a hypocrite? Was Jesus the truth? Is Jesus still the truth?

... to be continued ...

" I am the life"

Hmmm... now that's a weird statement... don't we all have life?
What did Jesus mean... "I am the life".

John 10:10; .... "I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly."
John 6:35; ... "I am the bread of life;"...
John 6:48; I am the bread of life.
John 6:51; I am the living bread..... the bread which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.

Is this our life on earth only? Is it our life after death only? Is it our life in heaven? Is it all the above?
Is "the life" part of "the life" we should be living?
How long is our life on this earth compared to eternity? Which is more important?
Is there any other way to have eternal life? Is Jesus still "the life".

John 14:6; I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6; I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father except through me.

Hebrews 9:28 (KJV)
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Let's jump to this:
Hebrews 10:19-23 (KJV)
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

The "holiest" is the very presence of God in heaven, accessible to any disciple of Christ who can enter in boldly, not sheepishly.

That Way.

This could be a little long, but I think it will answer your question.

2Ti 2:15 STUDY TO SHEW THYSELF APPROVED UNTO GOD, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Does the word “STUDY” mean we are to get all of our Bibles, lay them out on a table, and try to figure out what the Word God says and mean? I think we have this mind set that one day the Lord God is going to appear before us and say, “Curtis, I am so proud of you because you took the time to study my Word, and you figured it all out on your own. Good job!” Never going to happen!!! The Word of God is a mystery, and man can not teach himself or give himself revelation. All revelation comes from God alone.

1Co 2:6 Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although IT IS NOT A WISDOM OF THIS AGE or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.
1Co 2:7 But WE IMPART A SECRET AND HIDDEN WISDOM OF GOD, WHICH GOD DECREED BEFORE THE AGES FOR OUR GLORY.

The things contained within the Word of God were NOT hidden from us, but for us. The Wisdom we desperately need is that which comes down from above, and not of this earth! (James 3:15-17)

The word, “STUDY” means according to “strong's concordance”

spoo-dad'-zo
to USE SPEED, that is, to make effort, be prompt or earnest: - do (give) DILIGENCE, be diligent (forward), endeavour, labour, study.

We are to use “SPEED”, or “DILIGENCE” to do what? To present our self's before God. Here are a couple other translations of this same scripture.

2Ti 2:15 DO YOUR BEST TO PRESENT YOURSELF TO GOD as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. (ESV)

2Ti 2:15 MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO PRESENT YOURSELF BEFORE GOD as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately. (NET)

So, what we are suppose to do is “PRESENT OUR SELF'S BEFORE GOD” How do we get there?
The fastest thing known to man in terms of speed is “light”. It travels at about 186,000 miles per second. That's pretty fast!! God is light, (1 John 1:5) I wonder how fast he is? We don't know exactly how fast he is, but we do know when Jesus comes back, he is coming in clouds of great Glory in a ”MOMENT” in a “TWINKLING OF AN EYE “ for us, in which our bodies will be changed.(1 Cor 15: 52) The word, “MOMENT” is the Greek word, “ATOMOS”. We get our English word “ATOMIC” from this Greek word. Atomic clocks are most accurate clocks in the world. We can calculate 1/100 of a second, 1/1000, even 1/1000000 of a second. But the word “ATOMOS” can not be subdivided to any quicker resolution. It is so fast it is instantaneous, which is why God's presence inhabits all the universe and time all the time. He can traverse one side of the Galaxy to the other in an instant.

How are we suppose to present our self's before our Father? Jesus said, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life: NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME. (John 14:6)

Who is Jesus? He is the “Glory of the Father” (Heb 1:3) He is the “Brightness, and expressed image of his person” he is light! Jesus said he was the only “way” to the Father. The word “WAY” is translated, “HIGHWAY

All vehicles that transport people from one place to another must travel upon some kind of highway system. Cars have freeways, roads, boats have water ways, airplanes have corridors, which are highways in the sky set by the FAA. God always travels by his GLORY which is light that is instantaneous. This Glory also travels upon a HIGHWAY system, and Jesus is that highway. To be able to get on this highway there is something man has to do.

What was John the Baptist mission here on earth? He himself tells us this.......

Mat 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
Mat 3:2 And saying, REPENT ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat 3:3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD, make his paths straight. (KJV)

The word, “WAY” literally means a “HIGHWAY”.
John the Baptist was to prepare in the desert a “HIGHWAY” for the coming of the Lord. We could say John was the first spiritual highway builder. How did John build this highway? What was John's message he preached every where he went? “REPENTANCE” The Lord does not come into a person heart without “repentance”. Repentance is NOT this highway, it simply builds a highway from the throne of God into our hearts!!!

Jer 29:13 You will seek me and FIND ME, WHEN YOU SEEK ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART.

The word “REPENTANCE” means to “CHANGE YOUR MIND”
Not only does it mean to change what you are thinking about, but to change from thinking from our carnal physical mind to the spiritual mind in our HEARTS!! As a Christian we have a spiritual mind which is the mind of Christ that dwells within our hearts. The spiritual mind does NOT live or dwell in our head. We are told to renew our physical mind by using the Word of God, so that both our physical and spiritual mind are in agreement or else we will never receive anything from the Lord!! As James tells us...

James 1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
James 1:8 A DOUBLE MINDED MAN IS UNSTABLE IN ALL HIS WAYS.

There is a prophecy in the Old Testament that tells about a time, which I believe is today. It speaks about a HIGHWAY that only the REDEEMED can walk upon. This highway is built upon repentance!!!

Walking has to do with transporting your self some where other than where you are now. Walking in the Spirit has nothing to do with our two legs. It is only by God's Glory which dwells within the Church that makes this possible.

Isa 35:8 And AN HIGHWAY SHALL BE THERE, AND A WAY, AND IT SHALL BE CALLED THE WAY OF HOLINESS; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
Isa 35:9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but THE REDEEMED SHALL WALK THERE:
Isa 35:10 And THE RANSOMED OF THE LORD SHALL RETURN, AND COME TO ZION with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

What is the purpose of us coming to Zion, and to the throne of the King of Kings?

Isa 2:3 And many people shall go and say, COME YE, AND LET US GO UP TO THE MOUNTAIN OF THE LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and HE WILL TEACH US OF HIS WAYS, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

We are to use “SPEED” to present our self's before the God of our salvation for the purpose of him “TEACHING” us his ways, and every thing the Lord God teaches he “APPROVES”,and we will never be ashamed of what we have learned. which in turn causes us to be able to “RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH!!!

These next few verses from the Bible are the greatest thing the Lord has ever taught me in my life, because every thing I write about here or any other place came by doing this in my life.

Col 3:1 IF THEN YOU HAVE BEEN RAISED WITH CHRIST, SEEK THE THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
( We must know and believe that we have been raised with Christ, and then seek those things that are in that Kingdom where Christ is sitting.)

Col 3:2 SET YOUR MINDS ON THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, NOT ON THINGS THAT ARE ON EARTH.
(this is repentance in action by actively changing our mind and thinking on those things where our true home is which is Heaven it self)

Col 3:3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
( We need to know that we have already died with Christ on the cross and we are suppose to be living as one whose is alive from the dead!!!)

Col 3:4 WHEN CHRIST WHO IS YOUR LIFE APPEARS, THEN YOU ALSO WILL APPEAR WITH HIM IN GLORY.
(if we do all these previous things told us here, God guarantee's us that this will happen!!! You will appear with him in Glory. Why his Glory? Because that is the only way to come before God, which happens to be Jesus Christ the Glory of the Father.)

Every thing I know as a Christian came to me by doing this for the last 40 years.

When I read this scripture here in the Book of Hebrews it is a reality to me, not some future event that will happen. It thrills my heart to no end. When other believers ask me how I am doing, I tell them “I am on the top of the mountain of God, Mt Zion the city of the living God the Heavenly Jerusalem”
I usually get some weird looks from people when I tell them this.

Heb 12:22 BUT YOU HAVE COME TO MOUNT ZION AND TO THE CITY OF THE LIVING GOD, THE HEAVENLY JERUSALEM, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,
Heb 12:23 and TO THE ASSEMBLY (Church) OF THE FIRSTBORN WHO ARE ENROLLED IN HEAVEN, and to God, the judge of all, and TO THE SPIRITS OF THE RIGHTEOUS MADE PERFECT,
Heb 12:24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Who are the “spirits of just men made perfect?” That is us the Church who are in Christ made perfect through the “blood” of Jesus Christ!! This my brother and sister is walking in the Spirit!!
God's Word was that which gave us light to see what we really have, and it lead us to Jesus Christ. This scripture says it all....

Psa 43:3 O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; LET THEM BRING ME UNTO THY HOLY HILL, AND TO THY TABERNACLES.
Psa 43:4 THEN WILL I GO UNTO THE ALTAR OF GOD, UNTO GOD MY EXCEEDING JOY: YEA, UPON THE HARP WILL I PRAISE THEE, O GOD MY GOD.

The Word of God has lead us to God, but it was his LIGHT that actually brings us to him!!!!

As a side note, the word "diligence" is a old french term
The french word "diligence" refers to a " public trans portion system". It looked like a "carriage which is drawn by horses", very similar to a "stagecoach" which is used for the same purpose to relocate people to another place!
