There are things some Christians "want" to do. ... and some things we "don't want" to do.
But we do them anyway.
Rom 7:19; For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.
Rom 7:20; But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
There are things we say we want to do, but sometimes we don't do them.
Matt 21:28; "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.'
Matt 21:29; "And he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he regretted it and went.
Matt 21:30; "The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, 'I will, sir'; but he did not go.
Matt 21:31; "Which of the two did the will of his father?" They *said, "The first." Jesus *said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you.
There are people who say Jesus is their Lord and Savior, but they don't do anything He says or teaches.
Luke 6:46; "Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
Even after we are saved, we sometimes have sinful desires.
Gal 5:17; For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you want to.
Some churches teach that the Holy Spirit will make you "want" to stop sinning. But yet at the same time, they will tell you that you "can't" stop sinning
even if you "want" to. I disagree, the problem isn't that they want to... the problem is that they sin because they DO want to.
Nobody makes you sin. You sin.. because you "want" to. Plain and simple that's the reason you sin.
Now of course there is grace for our weaknesses and mistakes. God forgives.
If God makes us want to quit sinning, why do we still still sin? Are we more powerful than God?
It isn't a question of who is more powerful.. obviously God is. But He gives you free-will the ability to do what you want to do.
Even if... what you "want" to do is sin. We prove this every single time we sin.
Are you a Christian? Do you still sin sometimes? Why? Did God make you sin? If not God, then who? The devil made you do it?
Is the devil stronger than God? If not... why did you sin? Seriously.... stop and think about this. Answer this question.
You don't have to type an answer to reply to me here. But you need to know the answer for yourself.
We say things like ... "well you were REALLY a Christian you wouldn't do that". If you were REALLY a Christian you wouldn't be living that way.
If you were REALLY a Christian, you would quit doing that. We tend to point at "big" sins.
We consider things like abortion, murder, homosexuality to be "big" sins. We tell people God won't forgive you unless you quit those things.
(rightfully so, because it's true, the Bible says so).
But then we turn again, and we say the sins they we do... they are just "little" sins. God will forgive those things. The Holy Spirit makes you quit
doing "big" sins, but apparently He doesn't make you quit doing small sins. ..also apparently whatever sins I'm personally doing... are "small"
sins.
We do have at least one person here on TalkJesus who believes in something called "mortal" sins, versus what they call "venial" sins.
Basically the same thing... "big" sins, and "little" sins. People who believe in once saved always saved believe the same thing. Most will
deny it, but they will say something like this. I can't loose my salvation, because the Holy Spirit makes me "not want" to sin.
Then you ask them if they still sin. ... and they will say "yes". But I thought you said the Holy Spirit will make you not want to sin, so you
won't lose your salvation. Then the story changes slightly... well He doesn't make me stop doing all sins, just the "big" ones.
I'm not a murderer, or homosexual. I just do a little smoking, getting drunk, a little sexual promiscuity, take a few drugs... I cuss quite a bit,
sometimes I take God's name in vain. I get mad at people and call them "stupid" behind their backs. But I'm not a bad person.
I don't do any sins.. that are "big enough" to lose my salvation. I just do lots of "little" sins.
Really? How small or big do those sins need to be? Where do you draw the line on how big or small those sins are?
Jas 2:10; For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
If you've committed one single sin (and who can really say that?) you're just as guilty as if you committed all of them.
You're just as guilty as a homosexual, or murderer, or bigot, or hypocrite... or... any other sin.
There are no "big" sins, and "little" sins. Sin is sin. There is an unforgiveable sin, a sin which leads to death.
But all other sins are equally sin. God doesn't forgive any differently for big sins or small sins.
So the fact that you "want" to quit sinning, obviously doesn't keep you from sinning. At some point we have to take some of the responsibility
on ourselves. When we sin. It's OUR fault we sinned. Not God's fault. God doesn't make anybody sin. (to say so is blasphemy).
Jas 1:13; Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
But we do them anyway.
