Hi!

I have been reading 1 John and comparing my life to those standards. I believe that the word of God is truth and unless i have missinterpreted them then i am definatly not saved, infact by those standards many professing Christians are not saved. Could someone please give me some more advice! The scriptures are below.

1 John 2:3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.- I have tried to keep his commandments but keep failing therefore I don’t know him.
1John 2:6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. – I don’t walk in the same way Jesus walked.
1 John 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world If anyone loves the world; the love of the Father is not in him. – I love the world again and enjoy sin.
1 John 2:29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him. – I am not born of him because I don’t practice righteousness, I am a sinner.
1 Jonh 3:6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. – I sin so I have not seen him and I do not know him.
1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. – I am not born of God because I practice sin.
1 John 5:18 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.- I don’t keep his commandments and I they seem a burden to keep.
1 John 5:18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.- God has never had me because if he had the devil wouldn’t touch me.

Thank you.

hi in response to what you have written i would say you need to balance scripture with other scripture such as romans says the gift of God is eternal life, its a freely given thing, Paul says he does things he should not, i can tell you he was definately saved. the scriptures tell you that you need to recognise your sin and actively fight against it with the power of the spirit, no one is perfect but we live a life of repentance. it is natural to doubt but remember no one can say Christ is Lord unless the spirit is in him and you wont recognise sin except by the spirit and from your words you recognise your sin. welcome to the christian life

Thanks for your reply, i understand what you are saying. Paul said that he didnt want to do the things he did. However theres an urge in me to sin, like i want to.
It says in James that the demons believe Christ is lord. Are they saved? For me salvation is a complete change by the spirit, a work only done by God, a love for good and a hatte for sin. And compared to those scriptures i am heading for hell which is scary.
