“And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, who God has given to those who obey Him.” Acts 5:32

As today’s verse states, God gives the Spirit to those who obey Him. Acts 1:8 says, “ ‘You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you,’” so you know it’s the Spirit who gives you the power to live for God. But it’s a partnership: you must respond to Him. And the more you yield to Him, the stronger His presence becomes.

Obedience brings on the Spirit’s power, enabling you to obey Him even more. Jesus described this principle when He said, “To everyone who has, more will be given” (Luke 19:26). This makes perfect sense: the closer you are to His presence, the more you’re able to receive of His power.

What saves you is having the Spirit of Christ in your heart (Galatians 4:6). He marks you with God’s seal of ownership, making you His (2 Corinthians 1:22), and “if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his” (Romans 8:9). So every true Christian has a measure of the Spirit. But to walk in the fullness of His anointing, you must obey Him.

Many believers think that being filled with the Spirit is a one-time even, but while such initial encounters are important, you must seek to be full of His Spirit every day.
