"The Solution for Sin"

June 07, 2007 by Pastor Greg Laurie

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous.
-Romans 5:19

Have you ever wondered where sin came from? Did God Himself create it, or did He simply allow it? And either way, why?

First, let's recognize that God himself did not sin, nor can He be blamed for sin. The Bible tells us that God cannot be tempted by evil. To blame God and to be angry with Him for the entrance of sin into the world is to attack His character. So what is going on then? God in His justness, His wisdom, His goodness, and His love did allow sin to enter the human race. I don't completely know why. But I know that He allowed it. But more importantly, we brought it. The Bible teaches that it was man who originally sinned as well as the angels, willfully and voluntarily.

Adam brought sin into the world-through one man sin entered the world (Romans 5:12). But let's not be too quick to blame Adam for this problem. Let's recognize that, regardless of Adam's sin, we too voluntarily sin. Let's just say Adam never sinned and you were born sinless, with the ability to choose. Now my question to you is have you ever sinned? Yes. You have voluntarily sinned. So have I. We have all made that choice over and over again. Every one of us has willfully chosen to sin.

God didn't initiate it. God did not send it. But He gave us the ability to choose with a free will. So God allowed it, but He also made provision for it. We brought the problem. He has provided a way to remove it and eradicate it.

The apostle Paul wrote: "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous" (Romans 5:19). Paul is speaking, of course, of Jesus. Jesus Christ is God's solution to our sin.

We created the problem. God offered the solution.
