Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand it completely. Proverbs 28:5 ESV

Evil men could be described as those who selfishly choose their own way and don’t care about the needs of others around them. They see injustice, but it’s not an issue as long as it doesn’t affect them. These people are as prone to being shaken as anyone—and they often have a secret fear that they have made the wrong choice when it comes to God.

Those who seek the Lord, in contrast, see injustice and want to help in ways that go beyond sympathy. Justice is God’s best for people, but injustice denies God’s best from extending to certain people. Evil men are comfortable with injustice. God seekers should not be.

You might have a tendency to dismiss injustice as something people deserve for all kinds of reasons. You could say, “What can you expect? You know where they come from.” Prejudice can pronounce a difference between what is just and unjust in a way that God never intended. But those who seek the Lord not only understand justice but understand that it should be for everyone.

Prayer: God, I should want justice for everyone. The oppression of others should move me to action. Yet sometimes I’m more concerned about justice for me and forget that others need it too. Give me a heart large enough to care for everyone—because You created everyone.
