"The Problem With Sincerity"

by Pastor Raul Ries 05/09/2007

"Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue."
-Psalm 120:2

In a Peanuts cartoon, Charlie Brown said, "Why do we always lose when we are so sincere?"
We can be sincerely wrong! Sincerely doesn't mean success and is doesn't mean an automatic entrance to heaven! Truth is what matters -- not sincerity. There are many people who are sincere about their religion, beliefs, and philosophies. Hitler was sincere about what he believed but he was also dead wrong! Concern yourself with the truth and your sincerity will be holy. Forget the truth and your sincerity will be devilish!

Thought for the Day:
Make sure your sincerity is based on God's truth!

Absolutely. Sincerity is not what is required. As you say people can be sincere and yet completely lost.

Salvation is the criteria, and that not of works lest any man should boast.

"lest any man should boast"

This is such a good quote from the Bible, can you tell me where you found it?

God bless you

"lest any man should boast"

This comes from Ephesians. 2.8-9.

8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

God bless

Re: Sincerity

As a long time "Charlie Brown" fan, I'd like to point out the reason for Charlie's team's continual losing: They had a ball field, players, equipment, and sincerity. But, they didn't have a coach!. The players were all young and inexperienced. There was no one to teach them the finer points of the game; no effective leadership.

It's the same in the Christian life. All the sincerity and all the truth in the world come to naught if no one comes forth to take leadership and teach believers with less experience how to "play the game."
