"So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV
Do you ever find yourself grieving over the current state of our world, or perhaps desiring that someone you love (a friend or family member) turn to Jesus for salvation? If you answer to either of these questions is yes, then it may be that God is calling you to a special kind of prayer called “intercession.”
For the Christian man, any bad or discouraging news he sees around him, as well as the spiritual needs he sees in others, gives him the opportunity to engage in what is called intercessory prayer. That’s the kind of prayer in which someone “stands in the gap” before God and pleads for His mercy and intervention on behalf of another—including friends, family members, government leadership…the list goes on and on.
God has given each of us an amazing responsibility—and privilege: to be men and women of prayer, a people who come to Him and plead fervently with Him on behalf of others. Who or what can you begin praying for today?
Prayer: Father in heaven, I believe that You still seek men and women of prayer to “stand in the gap” and pray to You on behalf of individuals and my nation. Lord, I want to be one of those men/women.
