"The Power of Prerogative"
by Pastor Bob Coy
October 19, 2007
So Joshua said to the people, 'You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD for yourselves, to serve Him.' And they said, 'We are witnesses!'(Joshua 24:22 NKJV)
God has given the power of prerogative to mankind. Every man and woman has the capacity to choose what he or she will or will not do, will or will not say. And that particular power plays an important part when it comes to the calling that God places upon a person's life.
When God created us He could have made our calling compulsory. He could have arranged it so we would be forced to follow His plan and direction for our lives. But if there were no choice in the matter, then our relationship would be robotic and there would be no need for faith. God wants our response to His call to be cooperative, not coerced, so He gave us the freedom to choose whether we'll venture out in faith and lay claim to what He has in store for us.
It's important we allow this truth to sink deep into our hearts because many Christians view God's call on their lives as a matter of Him miraculously moving them from point A to point B. There is a necessary degree of dependence that must be exercised as we wait on the Lord to perform His plans, but at the same time we have to choose whether we'll serve Him like the Israelites of old.
The Lord wants us to want what He wants for us. If we're wise, we'll recognize that nothing in this life can compare to His call and we'll willingly choose to use our power of prerogative to walk in it.
