The Path We Choose
By Comingjoy 9-15-2008
We each choose the path we take. We choose if we will allow Jesus to walk the path with us or not. If we choose to walk the path with Jesus we should walk so closely that we are inseparable. Walking side by side as one. So when an obstacle comes in the path we will manoeuvre in such a way that we immediately get behind Jesus.
What happens is as an obstacle, what ever it may be, comes upon the path, we are left to choose how to deal with that obstacle. We can either choose to cling to Christ and follow Him and His way, staying as one, or separate and deal with it in our own way.
At first it may be just a small obstacle we come up against while we are still clinging to Jesus. No longer as one but as two. with our arms around each others shoulders causing our waist and legs to separate in order to walk around the obstacle, yet still able to cling to Jesus.
We then can go back and walk as one with Christ or choose to stay at a slight distance. Seeing we are able to handle it in part on our own, we are now set to see the next obstacle differently. When the next obstacle comes into our path we find it is larger than the last, and we are no longer walking arm in arm with Jesus as we once did. We are now once again left with the choice to get close to Christ and walk as one or to separate a little further than we did the last time. This time we are forced to choose to walk with out-stretched arms linked only at the hands as we deal with this obstacle. Once the obstacle is cleared we find that we have become more confident in ourselves with where we are. We choose to stay at this distance from Christ believing more in ourselves than seeing it was with Christ’s help that we were able to deal with the obstacles placed in our path.
The next obstacle to come along the path of life requires us to choose again to either fall behind Christ or to let go as the path has become two. We let go of our grip of Christ and follow the path now placed in front of us, confident we no longer need Him as much. We can no longer see Christ but we can still hear His voice. The latest obstacle has separated us from Christ and has now placed us on a separate path, where we once walked together we have now chosen to walk it alone.
The further we choose to walk along this path alone, the less we are able to hear the voice of Christ. If we choose to continue on this path we will find ourselves moving further and further from the Lord hearing His voice less and less. We eventually will come to a point on our path of life where we will have to choose to continue to go it alone and remain separated from Christ, or choose to retrace our steps back to the place where we left Christ behind and learn from our mistakes. So when the next obstacle of life comes upon the path we are walking, we will choose to hold onto Christ knowing when to walk behind Him, choosing to follow Him so we do not lose sight but remain on the path He is clearing before us.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
