And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, [and] righteousness; And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things. Psalm 45:4 NKJV

Think of a hero who fights for truth and justice. If your first thought is of a man in a skintight blue outfit with a red cape and underwear, you need to get your head out of the comic books. The concept of heroism is much older than the “Man of Steel.”

The origin of the word hero is likely related to pre-Greek words for “protector.” In Psalm 45, the psalmist paints a portrait of God as the ultimate hero who fights against evil, wins the loyalty of His beloved, and is remembered by the nations for His awesome deeds.

In a world where flaws are embraced, truth is treated as subjective, humility is seen as weakness, and justice is an unattainable ideal, a hero like this may seem outdated. Yet it is God’s flawless nature that makes Him the hero we need. It is His truth that makes it possible for us to trust Him. God’s humility makes Him approachable. And His justice makes His sacrifice worth laying hold of.

How can you praise God as the hero He is? By reflecting His priorities in the world He came to save.

Prayer: Lord, have victory in my life against lies, pride, and injustice.
