The marks of Jesus?

Hi everyone.

This is based purely on discussions with people through the course of my life, so it's not said that this is what the Bible says.

Jesus was crucified and raised on the third day. Acts mentions that Jesus told Thomas or one of the Apostles that he should "touch or reach" into the marks of Jesus.

Jesus ascended to heaven.

Does the Bible say that we will see the marks of Jesus? Will we see the piercings?

I'd like to know where in the Bible it is, please post the scripture, not what you "think".

Thanks
Faithful Son

Hello Faithful Son,

The only scripture that came to mind was this one, when reading your post.

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Personally, one doesn't want to be reminded of pain and suffering, so I think all will be wiped away.

Thank you for the reply sister Word of Life. I think you are one of the best people to discuss this with.

Many people have their own set of beliefs. For instance, I've got family members who swear by their life that they have to keep the 10 commandments. Why? Because they've talked about it with a clueless bunch of people.

The thing in South Africa, especially the Afrikaans culture is that people attend church or even gatherings where people socalize and they talk about God, but they don't understand what God means, because they never think of reading the Bible.

I know for a fact that somewhere in my life, someone told me that "we will know Jesus by His marks".

That's why I'm asking, because I haven't read about it.

I may sound a bit random, but I'm tired of hearing peoples stupid opinions regarding God and what He wants, I want to know the Words of Jesus and the Bible.

Thanks ;)

I will come back later to this thread Faithful Son, as I haven't done much of a study on this, but I did a quick search in eSword for "Marks" and Galatians 6, seems to helps us a bit.

Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Gal 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Gal 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Gal 6:4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
Gal 6:5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
Gal 6:6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Gal 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Gal 6:11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.
Gal 6:12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
Gal 6:13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Gal 6:16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Gal 6:17 From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
Gal 6:18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

You see when we become new creatures (born again), we will suffer with Christ. This could be what "bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus" means. Physically we won't see any marks, but spiritually, we will feel Christ's pain.

Thanks sister Word of Life.

I'd like some more replies on this, so feel free to comment.

God bless

Below is all I was able to find searching numerous online Bible versions.

I don't know if it's any help, but I hope so.

The one you mentioned that was while Christ was on earth\/

John 20:24-25 (NIV) Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."

PLUS . . .

Ephesians 1:11-14 (New International Reader's Version)
11 We were also chosen to belong to him. God decided to choose us long ago in keeping with his plan. He works out everything to fit his plan and purpose.
12 We were the first to put our hope in Christ. We were chosen to bring praise to his glory.
13 You also became believers in Christ. That happened when you heard the message of truth. It was the good news about how you could be saved. When you believed, he marked you with a seal. The seal is the Holy Spirit that he promised.
14 The Spirit marks us as God's own. We can now be sure that someday we will receive all that God has promised. That will happen after God sets all of his people completely free. All of those things will bring praise to his glory.

Galatians 6:17 (AMPlified)
From now on let no person trouble me [by making it necessary for me to vindicate my apostolic authority and the divine truth of my Gospel], for I bear on my body the [brand] marks of the Lord Jesus [the wounds, scars, and other outward evidence of persecutions--these testify to His ownership of me]!
