The Lord's Pleasure

He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy. Psalm 147:10-11

Secretariat, the majestic horse that won the Triple Crown IN 1973--including his historic 31-length victory at the Belmont Stakes, is still in the American vernacular. The movie based on his life brought in nearly $60 million in 2010. He's graced the covers of Time, Newsweek, and Sports Illustrated.

As interesting as Secretariat's story is, God doesn't delight in the strength of a horse, nor does He take pleasure in the legs of man--no matter how fast they can run or how much weight they can lift. Instead, He takes pleasure in those who fear Him, and in those who hope in His mercy.

What might this look like? Albert Barnes, in his commentary, says you might find such reverential people "in the closet, when the devout child of God prays; in the family, when the group bend before Him in solemn devotion; in the assembly--quiet, serious, calm--when his friends are gathered together for prayer and praise; in the heart that truly loves, reverences, adores Him."

Prayer: Lord, I know that You take pleasure in those who fear You while hoping in Your mercy. May I be quick to fall to my knees in prayer and to lead my family into praising you.
