Go forth out of Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans! With a voice of singing declare, tell this, cause it to go forth even to the end of the earth; say, The Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob! Isaiah 48:20 AMPC
Imagine finally hearing the Lord say “go forth” and “flee” your captivity, especially after being held for so long. The people of Israel were to do so with a voice of jubilation, telling anybody within earshot that the Lord had redeemed them.
It seems odd that they would need to be told how to react to being set free, doesn’t it? But keep in mind that they (or their ancestors) had been in captivity for seventy years, so they probably didn’t even fully believe that they were free until this very minute.
How many times and for how long did you hear the Gospel before you responded with jubilation? Jesus threw open the door of the prison that held you, but it may have taken you months or even years to fully believe the message and then act on it by walking out the prison door.
As your encounter others who are enslaved by their sin and then proclaim the Gospel to them, be faithful to share it with them over and over until they finally walk out the door.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your everlasting patience with humanity. We are so undeserving but so happy You’ve offered us a way to be free!
