For the LORD God [is] a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good [thing] will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11
This beautiful passage tells you that the Lord is like the brilliant sun, giving warmth and light as you make Him your center, orbiting your life around Him. As you do so, He will bestow His radiant qualities upon you, filling your life with grace and favor, and causing you to reflect His glory. Furthermore, He’s your strong defender, forming a protective shield around you.
Many people, however, fail to tune in to this overarching picture of God and His blessings, and focus only on the last half of the verse: “no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” They view God as some kind of galactic candy machine, and claim this truncated promise merely to get goodies.
Certainly God wants to bless you with your needs, but more than anything, He longs for you to walk close to Him, surrounded by and permeated by His presence. In turn, He wants you to shine His light upon the dark world. Only then, when you walk in the righteousness granted by His Spirit, will He be pleased to give you all good things.
