The Gospel According to Solomon

Staff Member
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven, and said, "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart; 1 Kings 8:22-23 ESV

In 1 Kings 8:22-53, Solomon presents both the good and bad news of the Gospel in eight points. All eight points can be found in the inspired sermons of the apostles Peter and Paul (Acts) and in their equally inspired writings (from Romans to 2 Peter).

First, the Lord is God alone. Second, the Lord’s name alone is to be worshipped, honored, and glorified. Third, the Lord is holy, mighty, and just. He is a God who keeps His word, who blesses those who follow Him, and who judges those who disobey His commands and go astray.

Fourth, all have sinned (1 Kings 8:46). Fifth, by turning to the Lord in repentance and confessing His name in prayer, there is forgiveness. Sixth, to reject the Lord is to bring condemnation on one’s head. Seventh, God is ready, in times of extremity, to hear men’s prayers and forgive them.

Eight, God is a deliverer, a Savior who wants to make men into His people, and into His servants, blessed by Him forever.

Prayer: Lord, You want every man to believe and live out the Gospel. Thank You for saving me.
