THE GLORY OF BAPTISM #124 - June 03, 2007

Have you been baptized? Perhaps your parents presented you for baptism as an infant. You can't remember; but your parents have told you about it. Was it important? A lot of folks get to church at least twice in their lives; when they are baptized and when they die.

If you have been baptized, you should stop and think about what this baptism means. Baptism symbolizes the cleansing of your heart from evil thoughts and desires by the washing of God's Holy Spirit. It is the outward sign that pictures the inner work of God's Spirit.

If you have been baptized, a picture has been painted on you. It is the picture of someone who has been cleansed from evil and desires to live for Christ. Your baptism continually calls you to live up to this picture.

This means your heart must be cleansed from sin. You must ask God to scrub you on the inside "by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:5). You must trust Christ as the One who paid the penalty due to you for your sins. You must commit your life to following Christ as Lord.

The glory of baptism is that it pictures a person "who has clean hands and a pure heart" (Psalm 24:4). God calls us to live up to this picture?
