I was hoping @Brother-Paul would start this thread. He is better at staying on topic than I am. 
But I think in order to understand the "current" heaven, we also have to under stand the "future" heaven.
Isa 11:4; But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
Isa 11:5; Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist.
Isa 11:6; And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them.
Isa 11:7; Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
Isa 11:8; The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.
Isa 11:9; They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.
Isa 11:10; Then in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.
Some people take these verses to be about a place where animals that don't normally get along (wolf/lamb leopard/goat lion/calf) will
now no longer enemies. Even young children will no longer be hurt by vipers and cobras.
Some people take "My holy mountain" to be Mt Zion (the New Jerusalem).
Obviously the Earth isn't in this state today. Wild animals are still dangerous.
Rev 21:2; And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3; And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
Rev 21:4; and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."
Rev 21:5; And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He *said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."
Some people believe the New Jerusalem is only spiritual in nature, not physical in any sense. Some even believe it is already here.
However, it says here... there will no longer be death there, no more sorrow or mourning, no more crying or pain.
Obviously the Earth isn't in this state today. There is plenty of crying and pain.
During the millennial reign of Jesus on the Earth, satan will be imprisoned in a pit. He will have no power or influence over the Earth at this time.
Rev 20:2; And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;
Rev 20:3; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.
Rev 20:4; Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Rev 20:5; The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.
This doesn't happen until the one world government and the mark of the beast, which hasn't happened yet.
There hasn't been a time since Adam and Eve that Satan hasn't roamed the Earth influencing people.
When the millennial reign is over Satan will be be released for a little while, but then he will be thrown into the Lake of Fire.
Rev 20:7; When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,
Rev 20:8; and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.
Rev 20:9; And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.
Rev 20:10; And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Obviously this hasn't happened yet either. Satan is alive and well on Earth today.
Once Jesus conquered his enemies and put them under His feet, He gives the keys of the kingdom back to the Father.
1 Cor 15:25; For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
1 Cor 15:24; then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.
1 Cor 15:25; For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
1 Cor 15:26; The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
1 Cor 15:27; For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.
1 Cor 15:28; When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.
Even Jesus Himself will become subject to the Father. The enemies of Jesus are still alive and well on the Earth today.
Death hasn't been abolished yet. Thousands of people still die every day. Jesus hasn't given the keys back to the Father yet.

Acts 1:7; He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;
Acts 1:8; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
Acts 1:9; And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
Acts 1:10; And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them.
Acts 1:11; They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."
Jesus hasn't restored the kingdom back to Israel yet. Also when Jesus returns, He will do it exactly in the same way as He left.
Obviously this hasn't happened yet. When He does come back, "every eye" will see Him.
