An Amazing Fact: The Bible never portrays Satan as wearing red, sporting bat wings, trailing a pointy tails, complete with horns and pitchfork. This notion actually comes from Greek mythology, and this distortion helps the devil. So what is the truth?

Every year, parents allow their kids to participate in the rituals of Halloween, an annual celebration of death and spiritualism. Halloween was designed to promote the belief that death is really a sacred rite of passage, that humans go on in spirit after they die, and that the dead can participate in the living world—even though the Bible teaches the exact opposite.

If that weren’t enough cause for alarm, consider that Halloween encourages giving in to the devil’s temptations—trickery, rebellion, destruction, excess, greed, and gluttony. It’s as if the devil made Halloween in his image!

But who, exactly, is the devil? Is he real or just a Bible myth? He’s often perceived as a comical caricature with a red body, horns, bat wings, a tail, and a pitchfork. Many people believe he’s just a mythical symbol of wrongdoing. However, the Bible says he is real and represents the very essence of evil! And his plans for escalating immorality, sorrow, pain, and destruction are succeeding to an incredible degree.

What more does the Bible have to say about this powerful force in the world? Read on …

Question: What was Satan’s name before he sinned, and where did he come from? The Bible says:

• "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!" (Isaiah 14:12).
• "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven" (Luke 10:18).

The fact that the Bible mentions him by name (Lucifer) and his first home (heaven) is a very strong indication that he’s not just a fable in a red Halloween costume.

Question: Did God make the devil?The Bible says:

• “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee" (Ezekiel 28:15).
• "Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.” (Ezekiel 28: 12).

God did not make a devil—He created a perfect angel (Ephesians 3:9). Lucifer was a "covering" cherub (Ezekiel 28:14; Psalm 99:1). His beauty was flawless and his brightness was awe-inspiring.

Question: What led Lucifer to rebel? The Bible says:

• "Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness" (Ezekiel 28:17).

Pride and discontent led Lucifer to become jealous of God’s supreme power. He actually hoped to unseat God and then demand that all worship him (Isaiah 14:13, 14).

Question: Where is Satan's present headquarters? How does he feel about people? The Bible says:

• "The Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it" (Job 2:2).
• "Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea, for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time" (Revelation 12:12).
• "Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8).

Contrary to popular opinion, Satan's headquarters is on the earth, not in hell. God gave Adam and Eve dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26). When they sinned, they lost it to Satan (Romans 6:16), who then became ruler, or prince, of the earth (John 12:31).
Satan bitterly hates humans, who were created in God's image. He can't touch God, so he directs his venom against God's children. He's a hateful, vicious murderer and liar whose aim is to destroy you and thus hurt God.

Conclusion
The devil is real, and he isn’t someone to take or treat lightly. The Bible teaches that in the very end, you are either for Christ or you are for the devil. Knowing now the Bible truth about the devil and what he really wants, isn’t it time to take your stand with God and deny those things that celebrate him and his lies?

There is a very telling scripture of Pauls that gives a greater insight into how the devil conducts himself amongst us.

2 Corinthians 11:14 (NKJV)

And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.""

Through the history of the Church Satan has been very active in discouraging people from their devotion to Jesus Christ. After all that is his ultimate mission.

The Devil, AKA Satan, is without doubt real.

Remember, in the book of Job, God is shown to be talking to him in heaven, Job 1:6-12. Also, When Jesus was being tempted, the bible says Jesus spoke to him, Matthew 4:1-11. You cannot get any better character witnesses to testify to Satan being real!

Yes in Hebrew satan is the noun that means "to oppose” and is translated into English as "the accuser". It is used in this context in particular parts of the Bible, when not directed at Lucifer himself.

The definite article “ha-” (which is "the-") is used to show "satan" as a title bestowed onto a being. ha-satan means the Satan.

So for example in Job 1-2
ha-satan is used (the title specifically expressing the being, Lucifer.)

In 1 Kings 11:23 and 1 Kings 11:14
"ha-satan" isn't present (But seeing as you got that from a book on Satanology I'm not surprised it has errors), but "satan" is used thus expressing an enemy in general.

I believe he is still Lucifer, but not the pure angelic being he once was, therefore God has chosen to express his evil character with this title.
He has names in the bible that express aspects of him. For example before he fell he was Lucifer, meaning "the light bearer" or "Illuminated one" He is also addressed as the ha-nachash "Shiny/Shinning one" in the garden of Eden. Again in the Hebrew it makes it clear it is a particular being, Lucifer.

These are proably to express his physical appearance as described in Ezekiel 28:13-15
He is beautiful and shining with the precious stones etc.

It is always in the correct context and clear about who is being described.

I don't see the Bible as being unclear on Satan, it is very straight forward and explains who and what it is talking about properly. It is God's word, and God is very clear and structured in His ways.
It is just up to us to study the Bible correctly.

Hi. Heard something the other day that brought something new to me at least...the name Lucifer, meaning son of the dawn, is in fact indicative that he was the very first created being. As one of the covering cherubs, (see OT descriptions of cherubs standing over mercy seat) he undoubtedly was of great stature in the heavenly kingdom, so little wonder he was able to deceive so many. He has had millenia to practice, study, and perfect his arts. Praise God that through Christ we need not fear him.

Satan is a Created Angel by God....

He can only be in one place at a time....

God in the book of Job asked him, Where you come from.. and Satan said walking up and down in the earth.. coming to and fro...

Satan has access to Hell, The earth and above... but one that is everywhere does not have to walk back and fourth from place to place.. and If God knew Satan could be everywhere.. God would not have bothered asking him........Where are you coming from...

Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Also, There are a bazillion (number my not be exactly correct) devils out there...and devils (And Satan) refereed as the tempter twice... as no Kingdom can stand and be divided.. If Satan temps, so does the rest of the bunch...

However.. to be tempted by the devil.. something has to be in your own lust he can pull on..... For we are draw away of our OWN lust and enticed....

God does not tempt us with (EVIL) There are some places in the Word where God does test (temp) but only by instruction to do something, and Not with anything evil such as sickness, or tragedy... God never does that...

Man is only tempted by what is in his Lust...... Something already working in you.....

Jas 1:14 But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions). AMP

The only Ability Satan has is to Bait.... that is it... If your type of fish does not bit, then Satan can do nothing.. but if it's something that gets your attention, something you have kept mediating on, then Satan has ability to magnify that, and bait you with that.

Jesus said:
Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

That is where it starts.... what you are looking at, thinking on, giving place to your thought life...... Jesus did not say you committed sin. What he said is, that adultery is ALREADY in your heart. Meaning that You have something to be enticed with, and baited with....

We cause this.... by not casting down imaginations, and bringing those first thoughts captive and to obedience....

2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

If we are for example "Lusting (wanting) another women" We have not brought that thought into captivity, and obedience... We still have not sinned.... but we have already set ourselves up to fall....

Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The death part comes "AFTER" you have gone through with the sin... It started in something that you desired wrong...

Satan can only pull on what He knows we lust after...... Have you ever had a real, messed up and evil thought.. and think to yourself.. "Why did I even think that??"

You cast that down right away... embarrassed that it even crossed your mind.. Satan brings these thoughts.. these baits... He does not know everything, and wants to find out what you will entertain in your mind and heart... He is looking for a place into your life..

If Satan finds the Lust of Adultery Already in your heart.. he has something to work on... and he can work on the person your lusting after.. Remember, His goal is to Kill, Steal and destroy you.

Satan just can't make us do anything.. He has to seek people that will give place to him... He is the fake lion, and take away his amplifier he sounds just like a weak kitten...

That is why James said... drawn away and enticed by your OWN lust.... It's the only thing Satan has to work with.... What you have allowed place.

Lucifer means "light bearer" or "Illuminated one" But yes he is referred to as Son of the Morning also Morning/Evening star (just like the Egyptian Pharaohs called themselves).
But I don't believe that indicated he was the first created being, only because all the angels are spoken of as the "Morning stars" and "Sons" of God.


Job 38:4-7 "Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? "

Lucifer was created before mankind.
I couldn't say exactly when he was created though, as I am actually still doing a study on all this to get a more in depth understanding.
But I assume he was created when God created the Heavens and the Earth, or between then and when God "filled" the Earth. (Not implying the gap theory here btw) As He created the Heavens and the Earth at the same time, but the earth was unformed and empty with the Holy spirit "brooding" around the waters...

I agree he is powerful, but he is just a creation and can never be like God! Amen. I think he is only so powerful because he was given an anointing. (Therefore being the anointed cherub [covering angel]).

The Root of this Word mashchâh........ was translated Anointed. The Word meant consecrated....... It was Always followed by physically putting oil on something... To consecrate it. Except in one place....

Balal was also translated Anointed one time, but mostly translated Mingle.

Num 18:8 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, by an ordinance for ever.

It could have been translated as... I given them by reason of a consecratory gift, and to thy sons, by an ordinance for ever.

Anointing of God, The Holy Spirit.........

Strangely the Hebrew Word used for this type of Anointing, the power of God's Anointing to break yokes was Shemen.

I was unclear on why the word mimshach was used for "anointing", because as you said its "consecrated", and I was thinking, so was he anointed in oil? haha

Satan just can't make us do anything.. He has to seek people that will give place to him... He is the fake lion, and take away his amplifier he sounds just like a weak kitten...

This is a perfect explanation of what exactly satan does in his assault on humanity. I have learned a few things, and other things have been brought into more light from this. It is also a perfect reason of why we need to work towards God and get rid of all the extra stuff that holds us down in the body. I think that a lot of people, even myself, don't realize how dangerous these things are to us AND our faith.

Beautiful. I love this. I have never met anyone who says the devil isn't real or he's in hell not here... but if I did I would automatically guess they don't read their Bible. This is some great scripture reference and I'll be sure to use it if I ever need to. Glory to God.

I think we can all see this is true, just look at the world especially today. The Bible truly has all the answers.

You know that makes sense, I never really thought about which Heaven was being spoken of. So silly. But when you point it out like that it is pretty obvious!
