I was listening to radio last night and the station I listened to mostly played secular music.
I can't remember which song it was, but the artist sang something along the lines that the cross he bears was too heavy for him, he couldn't carry it.
Do you sometimes feel like giving up? Is your cross too heavy to carry?
Don't feel ashamed of it, don't worry about it and don't even think for one second that you're not allowed to feel that way.
When Jesus was crucified and led up to Golgotha, He couldn't carry His cross alone either.
Firstly, let's look at the scriptures:
Matthew 16:24-27 NKJV
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.
Matthew 27:32-33 NKJV
32 Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross. 33 And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull,
Who are you supposed to give your cross to?
Jesus did not carry the cross by Himself. He was crucified alone and that cross He bore for the world, but He gives us rest.
When your cross is too heavy, turn it towards Jesus, ask Him to help you lighten the load, for no man can bear his cross alone.
Matthew 11:25-30 NKJV
Jesus Gives True Rest
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
